Could this be the reason some people wake up at 3am?

Military pilots and commercial pilots have very similar rules. Bottom line is beyond Tylenol, or Motrin, you pretty much can’t have anything that’s available over the counter.

The difference is a military pilot is that we had a Flight surgeon assigned to the squadron, and you could just swing by the doc’s office and ask him if it was OK to take something.

The good ones usually had Motrin on hand. “Vitamin M” in 800mg form… 😎

That’s easy enough to do by oneself. A friend is a doctor, and when I mentioned the pain meds I was taking, he laughed at the OTC doses. I’ve had doctors telling me to just up the dose at home as long as it was just for one time.

Re-read the front label………..carefully……
I pulled the wrong bottle picture off their website. This is the one I actually have.

re: Melatonin:

Long-term use of melatonin supplements to support sleep may have negative health effects

I’m not a doctor, but it seems fishy. Melatonin is naturally released in the body, and melatonin also causes many good things to happen for mitochondrial decoupling and neogenesis. More mitochondria generates more ATP, which results in more cellular energy, which is proven to be important in those with longer lifespans. There are a few cardiologists who say melatonin supplementation is essential, and have track records with saving & extending lives beyond what medical “knowledge” says their patients should survive…

Anything strong enough to help is strong enough to hurt in the right amount or circumstance. The right amount of vitamin A or beta-caretene is really good. Too much, though, can increase lung cancer risk, cause liver damage, birth defects, etc. Most vitamin brands had to reduce the amount in their multivitamins at one point.

For me, if I have ANY EtOH at all, even just a single glass of wine at 6PM, I have no problem going to sleep but will wake around 3am almost 100% of the time. If I have nothing to drink I sleep right through 3am. I don't drink much.

I'll leave that up to the folks who far more clueful than me to decide. I took it and found the side effects worse than what it was trying to fix.

ATP levels are very tightly regulated - like precisely regulated because the the consequences of too little is cell death and too much is super wasteful. When things decouple oxidative phosphorylation, it means fewer ATP are generated in the electron transport chain. Decoupling means the proton gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane is diminished both producing less ATP and using more already made ATP to try and pump protons to reestablish the gradient. If melatonin does this, it has to be very minor because decoupling also increases the amount of energy wasted as heat and can cause hyperthermia - see Dinitrophenol.

Came across the video by Kyle Cox.

Cox claims we wake up at 3am because out body thinks we need food. Cox states a tablespoon of almond butter before bed eliminates 3am wake up in most people.

Interesting...

Another lackey trying to make easy money. Wait until he turns 50. I take 200 mg of l-theanine and sleep from 2230 to 0530.

Agreed. I am not recommending continuous use.

I use it when in Europe, on day one, and I am going to bed at 10 PM (over there, which is 4 PM here) and getting up about 6 AM (midnight here). So, about once a week, or less, when I am flying to Europe.

I get a good night’s sleep, and I am ready for work.

And the 200+ people in the back want me well-rested and ready for work.
l-theanine works well for me and being an amino acid there's no downside. It's really good at getting your mind to stop running so you can fall asleep. I usually take it after a long day at the poker tables where my mind keeps replaying various hands from the day.

Gym time lifting headphones on Greed by Godsmack that get you going.
Tomorrow Vo2 max day yikes.

A drop in blood sugar causing the rise of cortisol are the issues. Causing a racing heart and nervous system issues and muscle stiffness. Also a racing mind which is helped by magnesium glycinate.
