I made my decision and went to Costco for tires. About the easiest experience I have had in a long time. I bought the BF Goodrich Premier Touring. Their price was very competitive. Then I went out and filled up with gas. Their gas prices are consistently 10-12 cents cheaper than the local stations. The BF Goodrich tires are a big improvement over the Hankook that were warranted for 80,000 miles but were worn out at 35,000.

I purchase most of my tires at Costco, the only time I go elsewhere is when they do not carry the exact tire that I need. Here in Canada they only carry Michelins and BFG.

Not only are their initial price lower, the free flat repair policy is worth about another 20$ to me.

I just changed out 4 Michelin Harmony tires, rated at 80,000 miles. They had 84,000 miles at the time of change and had more to go.

Just bought some Michelin Pilot Exaltas for my car at Costco. Absolute best price for top line tires + free rotation + free flat fix + nitrogen fill for life of the tires. Great tires, BTW.

Also bought Premier Touring for my 05 Maxx last week. It's a Costco only tire, and although not high performance seems as good as the OEM Bridgestones (which weren't bad at all).

I asked for 36 psi, since the Bridgestones seemed to work better with that inflation. Noticed some wander to the center of the road and upon rechecking, they had almost 39 in the right front tire. Dropping that to 36 seemed to even things out. Other than that the employees were polite and seemed knowledgeable. Would definitely do it again, and I think I'm going to like the tires.

You're lucky you had a good experience. I bought my last tires from Costco three years ago. I used to only buy from them. I needed to drive my truck from NY to Virginia, pick up a trailer and come back. I went to Costco on Monday to buy new Michelin LTXs, but they didn't have them in stock. They ordered them and assured me I would have them in time to leave on the weekend. Wednesday, they called me and said my tires were in. I said I'll be in Thursday. I left work early Thursday to make sure I got there. Upon my arrival, the tire guy informs me he's all alone and there's a huge tire sale going on. Come back tomorrow. I asked him what happens tomorrow when you tell me the same thing? The next morning, I got up, drove to STS, bought the tires from them and they even gave me a break when I told them what Costco had done. Costco kept calling me to say my tires were in. I kept telling them I was alone, I'll get there when I get there.

Thats the kind of treatment I've experianced from costco. If your just going in to get some cheap tires and in the stock size, you'll get treated just fine. Anything else will be a problem and they got a "policy" to bail themselves out every time. However, selling cheap tires is their game and they make money off it.

Virtually all the tires I purchase from Costco are non-stock items and it takes a week for them to bring it in. As long as you are not in a hurry it works out. Costco employees are not very knowledgeable about or experienced with tires. It is more of a monkey-see, monkey-do kind of situation with them. But they have the right equipment and are trained well on how to use them and I have not had a problem with their mounting or balancing of tires.
