Costco Plans to Build 800 Prefab Apartments Above Its Newest Store

I wonder what the parking situation will be for the tenants? I assume people will think it should be a non issue as Costco will have parking for its customers. Apartments are being developed in LA with little to no parking. Enter "la apartments no parking" on Google if you don't believe it.

Parking garage ?

All kidding aside I do have a lot of faith in Costco. I'll always remember during the pandemic there were papers printed and taped to the meat cases, stating the high prices in no way represent increased margins, and that when supplier prices retreat, so will the prices for members. I believe that Costco is in a unique position where members trust them to be fair.

I see it as people becoming dependent on corporations.
However if anyone took the time to read the article Costco is NOT helping LAs so called affordable housing crisis by building 800 apartments of which less than 25% (184) will be considered “affordable”

Makes great press but it’s something almost every builder does. The affordable ones will be the small oneBR/studios the other 626 will be out of reach for most the article is referring to.
COSTCO caters to the mid, upper middle class and higher, nothing wrong with that, we were there yesterday but for the so called article to present like they are concerned for anything but profits, well … the public is gullible

I was thinking this would make it less stressful for shoplifters, they grab their items, walk out, and go home, easy peasy.

And yes, I'm a shareholder!

I’m also a shareholder and COST is a excellent company to buy and shop at.

I don’t have a membership cause I shop at Publix @ 7 AM.
Costco opens at 10 AM which is very late for me.

Now get that credit card ready!
You’re not leaving until you purchase at least into the triple figures!
Wife and I laugh every time we go there.
Oooh dyson is on sale $500! J/k I research that kind of product, but $50 items wind up in the cart unplanned 🙂

Interesting... As others have said, what about parking, etc? Might make sense some places, but not others...
Costco is a pretty smart company. For many, it could be a win-win.

I like the cheaper gas!

People are dependent on corporations? No kidding! Lol. But it is not like Costco is the only company selling housing. Nobody will be forced to rent one at gunpoint.

Hmmm. 25% affordable? That sounds nice, to me. Not greedy. They didn't have to make ANY of them in that category.

I find it an interesting idea. It'll be fun to watch how it pans out.

Of course they are mostly targeting the middle class.Too many of the people who live in low cost housing have issues that make them less than desirable as neighbors and tenants. Nobody with better options wants to live next door to a crackhead. I imagine their screening process for the 25% “affordable” will be quite involved.
