Cost aside, what oil would you use?

If cost were no object then you could justify trying Mobil 1 and see if all this M1 info on bobistheoilguy means anything to you for your daily driver.

I think if you took the cost factor out of the equation it also make take some of the fun out of the equation for a lot of people on here, myself included. I admit that I eagerly await the Canadian Tire flyer every Friday night to see what deals they've got on oil. And I'm sure a lot of other people on here get the same kick out of finding killer deals on oil in their neck of the woods too. Even if we have to drive 20 miles out of our way to save money on oil, a lot of us will still do it.

Its fun to chase oil deals even if the cost of the chase exceeds the savings on the oil, and even if we don't need the extra oil. It's all about fun: Oil deals, oil brand, used oil analysis, VOAs, etc. We know most of our vehicles could live on whatever oil we put in it and no used oil analysis, but then life would be rather boring.

I'm from the old school. Choose 1 oil & stick with it. Delvac 1 5W-40 for our Tundra, Camry and Mustang. Mobil 1 15W-50 for our 2 vintage Chrysler flathead 6's.

Patman, I giggled like a schoolgirl a couple of months ago when the Canadian Tire Flyer had Castrol GTX 5 quart jugs for $8 CDN or so, PLUS you got a free Oil Filter (Fram) and they even included 5w20 in the offer.

You can imagine my joy when a few months later I stumbled onto Quaker state 4.4 litre jugs for $8 CDN or so, PLUS you got a free Oil Filter (Quaker State) and they even included 5w20 in the offer.

I will not even start on the number of hand and power tools I have bought just because the Canadian Tire Flyer made it impossible not to...

Why did it sensor F U C H's Titan oil last I checked F U C H was a Germany brand name not a swear word! The nanny needs to losen it's grip!!!! For those that are wounder I did not swear in the above post it sensored the German brand of oil F U C H's I am hopeing that spaceing the letters out fulls the stupid censor! I hate all manner of censorship especialy at the hands of a moronic computer. It is one theing for a human being to do it like a moderator quite another when a stupid program attempts to do it!

JB

Maybe the mods can check the filters used on Porsche boards. You would not get very far on those limiting discussion on by auto-ruling the name of the stock wheels on most Porsches for 15 years or so.

1 Torco
2 redline
3 amsoil

Would use whatever oil listed above that was most convenient to buy.

My wife just rolls her eyes when she knows I'm opening the front door to pick up the CT flyer of the week, since she knows I will run around the house yelling "The Canadian Tire flyer is here! The Canadian Tire flyer is here!" (just like Steve Martin in the Jerk when he gets the new phone book!)

If cost is no object, I would use whatever came in the new car everytime I got one.

I'd never change oil.

Just get a new car every so many miles.

Since cost is not an issue.

Not a serious question, so here is the non-serious answer.

I prefer Amsoil in just about everything with the exception of the Jeep. I like the quality, and it's also convenient to order it and have it delivered to my doorstep in a couple of days.

Has anyone ever proved that a different oil made a difference? Take moderate weather, good driving habits and a new car and manufacturer's suggested oci's. I know that used oil analysis will be different but is there any proof that the service life of the average new car is in any way effected by the choice of oil, from Chevron under a buck oil to the most expensive synthetic oil? And I'm not talking about how you feel or if the engine makes more or less noise or runs smoother, just is the service life made better or worse?

JB, which Fuchs ?
Have used a few of their diesel lubes and still use their Titan Ultralube 15w40 in the tractor. Decent performance (if you can believe the used oil analysis) although Delvac 1 delivers better #'s ....

I'd love to try Redline 15w40 and Neo 15w40, although I'd doubt they'd better the D1 I've been using for the last 5 years.......

Lonnie;
The closest I've ever seen to this was a test that Mobil did to prove that MOBIL 1 was superior...ran two cars on dynos, 7500 mile oil changes. One had M1, the other had a 'quality' dino of that time (awhile ago).

After 200,000 miles, the Mobil 1 engine was brand new and the dino engine was all varnished up and had significant wear. The fact that it went 200K on the crummy oils of the time sort of begs the question of whether the M1 investment was 'worth it'.

I think I'd stick with the GC I'm using now since it seems to be available at just about all the Canadian Tires and Walmarts here in Canada now. I know price was beside the fact in this thread but it is the same or slightly less than all the other top brands these places carry.

^^To me it would be worth it for my some of my old cars, because if I got it early enough to be able to do something to protect it against rust (either really good rustproofing or store for winter) then unless the car got totalled it would be running until I die. Eventually the engine would need to be rebuilt, the different between using synthetic and not using synthetic could be as much as 1,000,000 miles before rebuild versus 500,000 miles before rebuild.
