Ok, I've seen a bunch of stats on this site (very informative). I guess my question is this: With amsoil, you get lower metals in a used oil analysis, but with Mobil 1 you get better viscosity. (after a decent oil change interval).

In any event, this car will not see more than 3k-5k miles a year. does it matter which oil I use. Further, I plan on using either the Mobil Extended performance filter, or the Amsoil EA032 and an amsoil air filter.

No it doesn't especially considering the very small differences in wear. Either will work fine. If you're using M1, use Mobil 1 Extended Performance. I'd probably try Redline in a Corvette if I had one. German Castrol is also excellent.

I am not sure this is an accurate statement. I think AMSOIL S3K 5w30 would probably yield the same viscosity control as Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30. It is the AMSOIL S2K 0w30 that seems to thicken over time, especially in larger (i.e. V8) engines. Either way, both AMSOIL and Mobil 1 would perform very well, IMHO.

With that kind of mileage either will be fine and Amsoil and Mobil will hold viscosity.

2001 Z06 here with 73,000 miles. I would recommend staying with the OEM air filter. It is really almost the BEST filter for your beast!

You really won't need to change the stock air filter for a lot of YEARS. So 3-5k miles would mike out to 6/10 years!! I think the oem recommendation is something like 30,000 miles.

DO NOT under any circumstances use an oiled filter media!! The mineral oil can migrate to the MAF and oil coating is NOT a good thing for the MAF and its electrical component parts!! Oil filter media oems make no claims as to filtering better than the stock filter. In fact they allow more SI in.

Whatever oil you use, make sure to see the oem manual or shop tech data. One specification (on the C5's anyway) is the GM 4178 M. Since Mobil 1 5w30 is the factory fill, it meets this spec. Much of the Corvette community changes oil at 1.5,3,5k intervals, and really to each their own.

I change it when the DIC says to, and it is around 15,000 miles OCI's. I did however do a 1600 mile OCI and I have to say it was a complete and utter waste of time, energy, money and resources.

For as much as you plan to drive your Z06, may I highly recommend a good battery trickle charger. My battery died at the 4.25 year mark. The fact of the matter was the battery trickle charger indicated the alternator DOES NOT fully recharge the battery even during LONG trips. As you will find out, the Corvette draws current just sitting.

I absolutely love driving mine and it has been almost problem free. Otherwise, congrads on your new Z06 and keep us informed as your ownership time goes on!

With only 5k a year the choice of oils isn't super critical, because even if you made the wrong choice, you'd still probably get 150k out of your engine, so that's 30 years worth of driving.

I don't know how you could limit yourself to only 5k a year though, I put 20k on my C5 every year and am having a blast! (it's my daily driver)

With such low mileage would Red Line stick to the engine better after shutdown, and then give better protection on startup after being parked a while?

He did not say it is a ZO6 C6, so we will assume it is an LS2 C6. Amsoil does not make a Ea air filter for this application yet (but I believe they are working on it).

My brother does have an '06 C6 (LS2) and after an initial 500 mile OCI installed Amsoil S2K (0W-30) and the EaO32 oil filter. The car ran one of the fastest pure stock (except for oil and filter change) times for any automatic Corvette out there. I don't know if the oil had anything to do with that, but I doubt it hurt his time/speed.

it is an LS2, I wanted the Z06, but for this app, the convertible trumped the Z06

Is your brother named Marc by any chance? I know a guy from LS1Tech.com who has a yellow 06 Corvette (automatic) who ran 12.48 at 112mph bone stock! I want a C6 badly!

BINGO!! One and the same! He's trying to find out if any automatic Vettes of any vintage ever went that fast pure stock, even the rare C2 L88s and ZL1s (were any of these even built in auto??) . Of course those cars were severely traction limited by era tire technology (or lack thereof!).

What a small world!

I don't recall any automatic Corvette ever running as quick as his car! And the great thing is, I know his car will run even quicker once he gets more break in mileage on it, as the LS1-LS2-LS6-LS7 family of engines always make more power once they get beyond 10,000 miles.

I bet you Marc's car will run 12.2s under perfect racing conditions once it is fully broken in. I just hope he leaves it bone stock long enough to get to that point.

Once he finally gets the car running as quick as it's going to go in that trim, then he should try getting it dyno tuned, and I bet with those tweaks that would give him another tenth or two. Technically speaking it's not 100% bone stock at that point, although it could be considered mostly stock.

Yeah, he's not too anxious to mod his ride. If someone could just efficiently pull ALL of the torque management out of the PCM he would go that fast or better in otherwise pure stock trim!!!
