Can anyone verify the oil capacity? Below from Amsoil matches my manual. But it always seems overfilled slightly, even at significantly less than spec.
I have trouble reading the dip with clean oil - but I'm wondering if I need to look at a fuel dilution issue. (No gas smell).

What are guys using for oil testing these days? (I feel like I posted this a few years ago, but can't find the post - apologies if a duplicate).

Capacity: 5.4 quarts. . w/of. After refill check oil level.
Capacity: 5.7 quarts. (with filter). After refill check oil level.

Are you checking hot and waiting few minutes or when the car sat for a prolonged period of time?

In my experience many cars will give inconsistent reading when checking hot. I always check after the vehicle sat overnight or at least for few hours.

Also, what a stupid oil capacity. How hard is it to make the sump to at least the nearest half a quart?

Slightly overfilled is not a big deal depending on the definition of slightly.

I've seen from Ford, Nissan and other manufactures language in the manuals stating that the capacities are for approximation purposes. In other words, use the dipstick to determine level and the capacity in the manual is to give you an idea.

What I normally do is install around .5 quart less than the manual specification and top up if necessary to get to the full line. It's easier to add than to remove.

But yes, as already stated, a slight overfill is likely nothing to be concerned with.

From my quick lube days...

When we saw a capacity like that (which was most of them), we would round up to 5.5 or 5.75, respectively, and it was usually spot on.

There were a couple exceptions, such as Fords 4.6 and 5.4 mod motors, those were 6qts regardless of dipstick reading.

Also, check your owners manual for any suggestions related to checking oil. Our Ram and Wrangler says get it hot, shut it off, check after 5 minutes. That's the official "accurate" method.

But it always seems overfilled slightly
When you say "overfilled", what does that mean ? Is it above the top mark on the dipstick ? Anywhere in between the (2) marks is 100% acceptable level. Some people think it has to be all the way to the top mark, otherwise it's "low" on oil.

5.7 is correct. Sounds like you are not allowing the oil to fully drain; are you draining the oil hot and allow both the filter and plug to be out at the same time?

Checking cold - it's a few mils over the max line. (I add less than 5.25).

It sounds crazy, but I'm wondering if I have the wrong dipstick from the factory - it doesn't seem to fit the tube, and takes way more force than seems normal to remove. (The first time I used it, I thought it had some type of old school snap lock on it).

I'm about due anyway - I'll try a hot drain and see if it makes a difference. Thanks guys.

Did you buy it new ? The odds of the factory installing the wrong dipstick are pretty slim as they wouldn't even have alternate dipsticks to mix up. Post a picture of the rubber grommet area that "seals" and post the length from the grommet to the end. Anyone with a 2020-ish J35 will have the same dipstick and could compare. Or just take yours to a dealer parts counter and compare.

Funny because I'm 2k into my OCI on the '19 Pilot. I'm about 95% sure I had it a bit lower so it was just at the top line for full. Last check, same place, same way as always I was over the line. Just told my son I almost want to drain a bit out to monitor.

Not too difficult as I have the Valvomax plug as well as a HF extractor. Maybe this weekend.

As mentioned no issue with slight overfill normally but if being added from fuel then not so much.

Does a couple nice longer drives (like 1-2 hours) provide enough time to burn off fuel dilution or once it's mixed in that way it stays?

Yes - bought new off the lot.
