I am just about finished with the first rinse on the girlfriends Corolla. I have noticed in the last 1K, the oil consumption has increased.

Clean Phase- Valvoline, 1.25qt usage over the 2500 miles.

Rinse Phase- Mobil Clean 5000, about 2.5 qts in 2950 miles. I also changed the oil filter at 1500 miles.

As I said, it seems like the past 1K have been about 1.25qts comsumption. Is this normal? I'm not sure why it would burn more suddenly.

Thanks.

On the bright side, on the way home I saw and heard a cammed Z06. Was like sweet music to my ears

I thought about that, but then again I haven't had a problem when switching oils before. But definately a possibility.

Any reason though, why there would be more consumption suddenly?

The rinse step is supposed to get alot of gunk out. Perhaps it is cleaning alot, and letting oil seep trough the seals. Give it another couple OCI, and the freshly exposed seals might swell up and cease the oil usage.

Auto-rx users always report oil usage stopping after the treatment.

No, just a conventional oil that is pretty cheap.

I noticed a slight increase in oil use myself. I went from 1/2 qt/1700 miles to 1/2qt/1500 miles during the rinse phase. I still have about 800 miles to go for the rinse, and then have another clean rinse phase to do. I'm pretty certain this can be considered normal and is nothing to worry about.

As someone else mentioned changing brands of oil can cause additional oil consumption.

I'm on my second clean phase and it seems that my oil consumption also increased. The first clean and rinse, I was consuming about 1.5 litres per 5,000 kms (just like before I started auto rx). Now for my first 1000kms, I have consumed about half a litre. I'm using Pennzoil Platinum 5w30.

I also got a mild knock at start up last week but has now disappeared. I noticed a couple of very small particles suspended in my oil on the dipstick.

I'm also hoping that things will get better after the rinse phase.

Did you use PP before? I have heard of people saying when they switch to PP, oil consumption increased.

The general consensus is that noises will go away after the rinse phase, I'm hoping so. This morning, the corolla made a knock for about 1-2 minutes, and then went away.

So far, I am very impressed with ARX but it is only natural to worry when your car makes noise. Even when you're told they will go away, it still makes me nervous.

Yes ..especially if they're new ticks that you didn't have before doing the treatment. When they're gone ...people will wonder if you're a shill for the stuff if you say that it did a great job.

It's an interesting position to be in

I started using PP on my first clean phase. Also, I had a one time nasty knock (like a broken diesel engine) upon start up but went away after the car has warmed up. This was around the first 1500 kms of the clean phase. I didn't have any strange noises during the rinse phase and the car felt more responsive. The slight tick I just had in the second clean phase is now gone. The only issue I have is burning oil.

The car (v6 altima) runs very well and gas mileage is pretty good (25-26 mpg city) as before for a v6. I wonder if fuel dilution contributes to the burning oil. This is because my drive time is very short 15 minutes - 20 minutes going to my workplace and the car seldom sees the highway.
