Cops and traffic law enforcement

Are there ANY areas where cops enforce traffic laws anymore? They don't do it in my area, or anywhere within a state or two of my area. I don't get why they don't. Tickets = fines, which = revenue for police departments. Drivers in my local area are absolutely nuts and pay no attention whatsoever to traffic laws. Speeding here isn't 5 over the limit, it's 15, 20, or more over the limit. Cops could literally just park where they could pull drivers over and write tickets all day long. And it isn't just the speeding, it's red light running, tailgating, no signaling, cutting people off, and all of this greatly contributes to road rage. I know traffic enforcement isn't their only job, but in recent years it seems like it's not part of their at all anymore...
Same here. People are just insane on the roads here. There are no laws on the roads . Free for all.Str8 on red left on red .Speedlimtis LOL ya right .Tailgating is the new fun thing to do apparently .

911 audio: Suspect tells dispatcher to call off Seattle PD pursuit, citing new law

“This is an illegal pursuit. They’re not supposed to be able to pursue,” a man says on the call.

Sir, are you able to pull over and talk to officers?” the dispatcher replied.

“No. It is an illegal pursuit, and my license is suspended, and this is an illegal pursuit. They’re not supposed to be able to pursue,” Sissel says.

There has been no noticeable road or vehicle enforcement by local LEO in my area for about the past 5 years. Any remnant of order disappeared with the Summer of Love, 2020. Somehow, the driving behaviors seem to be noticeably worse every week. The PA. State Police are still doing their job but are spread super thin. Locally, in the past week they nabbed a multiple homicide and arson suspect who was driving his Lexus through suburban backyards after fleeing a stop. They also saved a woman that was kidnapped upstate by pulling over a car for illegal window tint.

You can get away with anything here. I drove my winter beater all season without an inspection sticker and was never even given a second look. I still can't believe my luck. (Needed new cats which essentially totaled it.)

personally think it depends on where you live and the idea some places are easier for speed enforcement than others.

comment regarding amount of police. I happen to be in a gas station near Immokallee Fl which is in the boonies. Florida Highway Patrol Sergeant pulls into pump next to me. casual conversation was what are you doing out here, Sarge says he is checking up on some of his troopers... but he has five cars to patrol 6 Florida Counties. so there you go.. not very many.

Same situation happened to me in Broward County talking to FHP officer at gas station... he said at night we have 2 cars for Broward County, population 1.5 million and there are 145 miles of highway in BC... Trooper said we generally aren't anywhere west of the FL Turnpike at night.. which explains why in 8 years of daily travel across the 50 miles of Alligator Alley in Broward County I very rarely saw a FHP.

I drove a school bus for 3 years, the local Sheriff had a tendency to do spot targeted speed enforcement, using multiple squad cars in one specific area or another. You could almost predict where they would sit, which made me laugh because those cops still pulled over plenty of people..

Speeding in residential areas definately not cool. Thats where the cops should be enforcing.
I was in a school zone doing the required 25 mph. Kids were walking around on both sides of the street. A car passed me in the center median doing at leat 50. There was a sheriff going the opposite direction at the same time. He didn't go after the guy.

I drove a school bus... sometimes there is a gawd... Stopped on main road with the red lights on and this azznozzle blows by me doing 50mph. The Sheriff happened to be sitting behind me in the rolling traffic jam behind me.. Guess who got a ticket. :)

As someone uneducated in this topic completely, just a common citizen,

traffic stops look dangerous as can be. Side of the road, no or minimal protection, don't know who you're walking up to and what state they're in.

I understand that LEOs sign up knowing the danger.
This is why more automatic traffic and speed ticketing systems may be a thing of the future, like in Europe.

"Routine traffic stop" is language designed and intended to leave the impression that cops have a right to stop a car to interrogate and/or search the driver without a specific legal reason. It's a very pro-police frame of mind. The phrase reached the American vernacular by being used as boilerplate in police press releases.
I'm sure there are few, if any traffic stops where the cop doesn't have a reason the pull the driver over...most of the time they don't pull over drivers who should be stopped...

My sister retired from law enforcement. She says the main reason they don't enforce as aggressively is they don't want to be shot when they pull someone over for a speeding ticket.

Here all the time especially in my county. I’ve never been stopped but they are on top of things here. In high school my friend got a ticket for going 5 over in his neighborhood lol. If a cop is around and you run a light or speed here he is going to get you. I have a friend who had an old truck with antique plates and he got stopped on a Thursday because he drove past the same cop everyday for two weeks haha. He got the plates basically taken away by the cop who told him if I see you come by here Monday with those plates I’m impounding your vehicle for abusing antique plates so Monday you need valid plates and an inspection. And said he believed three days to get the issue addressed was fair. Virginia has gotten pretty strict on abusing antique plates and farm use plates.

My dad has been stopped a few times for out lights. Once we were leaving a restaurant and my county lit him up as we pulled out and just made sure none of us had anything to drink and then told us the tag lights were out. I know quite a few cops and the ones I know are pretty lenient more than they should be. The state police that patrol on US460 where I drive to work haven’t stopped me and I flew past one of them at 70 in a 55 once by mistake lol. He pulled out in front of me the other day and waved haha. It’s always the same guy. I think he likes my plates cause I have seen him give me the thumbs up a couple times too after pointing to my front end. I don’t know that for sure but that’s what it seemed haha. The county I work in though will stop you so I have to be careful there haha. I do understand that that’s not always going to be the case though of them not stopping me so I did get better about paying attention to how fast I’m going. I think 5 over is good. 7and up I’d stop someone so I think 5 over is a good way to go. The ticket my friend got was by a rookie cop who was stopping people for nothing. They let him go after a short while. The only time I’ve dealt with police is in the two accidents I’ve had. Both of which were not my fault and the cops were really nice both times in both counties.

I surely hope not.. they had the red light cameras where I live for a short time period but the citizenry took it out on the politico's enough that those cameras were removed.

^^^ I'm definately NOT for automated traffic monitoring and fines. Just saying, the way people seem to keep inreasingly drive like complete lunitic could be a reason why automated traffic monitoring and fines could become more of a thing.
