This could be great for coordination and eye training. Looks like a great exercise you could do at home and it is not loud and you do not need permits,,, just cut a tree limb in half or a broomstick handle in half and your ready for fun...PS, might wear a football helmet ,IMHO...

I've done it for many years, Arnis and Kali. One stick, two sticks, a knife, a stick and a knife, etc.... Great for coordination, and SD.

I watched a few more videos on this stuff, it can get real brutal, would not want to tangle with someone who really knows this stuff...but broom handles in the car,,short ones might come in handy for tough moments....

A friend and I studied it for many years, and taught it as well. It can be brutal, and is extremely effective. Even a rolled up magazine can be effectively used. I like a stick about the length of my arm, from the armpit to the finger tips. What's nice about it is it gives reach, and you don't have to cave someone's head in to render him harmless. A smashing blow to the hand, elbow, collar bone, knee, etc. can take the wind out of someone's sail real fast. Head blows, that's another story.

Heh heh, a cubit long .Sorta like the old school policeman's baton A tender end rammed into a sternum would be quite effective.

Coordination and eye work?

Fist thing I thought of was that these guys are going to end up with a stick in the eye.

Typically smashed fingers, and pops to the head. Most people start out very slow and overly cautious, out of fear of getting hit.

I would venture to guess that walking down the street with cut off broom handle would not catch anyone's eye as being a defense weapon or upset folks in a shopping center. Yes, a crack to the head or hands would hurt like u-know-what....

Some people carry sticks on walks, my buddy keeps one attached to his bike with a pretty cool Velcro set up to protect himself against dogs. I remember a big mixed breed tried attacking me in my younger days riding a bike home from a tennis court. Fortunately for me I had enough time to remove the tennis racket, from the rack over the rear tire where I kept it. It had a nice wooden brace on it to keep it from warping, so it had some mass to it. I smashed the dog in the face with the racket, which in turn stopped the attack. The owner wasn't happy. Bottom line keep the dog on a leash.

With regard to carrying a stock to a shopping center, not practical, however Arnis for example is a complete Martial Arts fighting system. In other words, students are taught to fight quite effectively with or w/o a stick. Some instructors piggy back it with another MA as well, but having a stick is always a plus. It is a very enjoyable MA, and it is something older less agile people who want to learn to defend themselves w/o a gun can learn and become quite proficient at. Have you ever seen an older person with a walking stick or cane that had no problems walking?
