For those of you who have a 3.0 Villager/Quest, when you finally get around to changing ALL your coolant hoses, don't forget the two short ones that go to/from the little burp valve on top of the intake. You know, the ones that are on the BACK OF THE UPPER INTAKE, UNDERNEATH THE COWL, AS IT CURVES AWAY FROM THE ENGINE AND TOWARDS THE FIREWALL!

Let me save you the time in "trying" to get to them; take the upper intake off - it is time saved in the long run.

Can't complain too much as the factory hoses lasted 13 years. By the time it needs hoses again, it will be with one of my kids at college. My intent at that point is set it on fire and let nature takes it course.

BTW - when I find the person that designed that set-up, I'm going to erase his existence from the records of history. Start running, little man, start running ...

LOL.

I remember changing the oil on my 3VZE 4Runner, and seeing the "oil cooler" lines.

Raced into the dealer that sold the new car to the original owner, and was told that there was no oil cooler. Showed the head mechanic the cooler and lines..."never noticed those".

Computer system identified them OK, but they had never sold a single one at that dealer.

You should see what I'd have like to have done to the guy who designed the starter motor fastening system for the Renault 16 TL RHD. Rang Renault one day doing the job, and said that I couldn't work out how to get the starter motor out without removing either the steering, or the inlet and exhaust manifolds....answer was "yes"

I was going to mention my heater hose change cost nightmare for the '92 3.0 Aerostar; hoses are $44 each!!!!! And then you have a near impossible task at getting to the heater core side to remove them. But now I am more concerned if my 3.0 has this burping hose. I have a Vulcan pushrod 3.0 so I am hoping yours is the new fangled 3.0 and I don't have to burp mine. ????

I remember looking the the hoses on my 3.0L and hoping that I would never have to change them....

Should have replaced your fuel return hose while you had it apart. The Villager was one vehicle where "familiarity breeds contempt" applies.

Does the 92 Aerostar have the same hose as the 93 3.0L with the snap connector used to connect to the heater core? They're not cheap that's for sure. If that's the case, I took regular heater hose and clamps and made it work.

I would demand that every engineer physically perform every service op available on everything that they came up with. Not just write the service procedure ..physically do the repair.

I think if this was a personal sacrifice (no minions doing the task for you) ..that doing stuff like this would have more convenient ports and knock outs ...etc..etc.

Get them the budget and make that a design priority and the vast majority of engineers will gladly design maintainable equipment.
