I'm hoping one of you Ford guys can help me. I want to do a flush & re-fill of the cooling system on my wife's '97 Expedition 4.6L. The owners manual lists the Ford Motorcraft
part # & a Ford Spec. # for the coolant. Well, I don't want to pay through the nose for coolant at the dealer. So, really I have three questions:

1) How exactly do I do a proper flush/fill?
2) Do I really need to "flush" it....Can't I just drain the old coolant & re-fill with new coolant?
3) Exactly what non-Motorcraft coolant do I need?

Thanks in advance!

Ford's supplier of the old conventional green coolant was Texaco. Up until about a year ago you could find the conventional Texaco (Havoline) coolant just about anywhere.

Do you still have your owners manual?
In it has the spec for coolant.
The coolant jugs have the specs they cover printed on them.
DO NOT put anything else in the system but the spec.
The wrong speced formulation of ccolant can cause fast deterioration of the thin metals of the cooling system.

Here is a 'how to' for changing coolant.
