Coolant change - can't get enough back into rad

no, just trapped air.

overheating is not good.

Agreed, I always feel the heater hoses after a refill, if they aren't getting warm fairly quickly then the system doesn't have enough coolant...

It used to be easy but now days most systems have a sealed thermostat that doesn't allow any coolant(or air) to pass when closed... The heater hose removal always worked for me and one can usually find those...

I got enough coolant into it last night that it wasn't overheating. I think I had maybe 4L in it at that point, and the heater started blowing hot air again. Had an appt at a garage this morning. They used an air lift to pull all the coolant and air out, and put coolant back in without air. They said it only took about 1L in addition to what I had (hence the 4L estimate above). The mechanic I spoke with said it is very hard to get air out of this particular Honda system.

It doesn't appear the overheating did any permanent damage. Seems to be running well, and the mechanics didn't notice anything or seem worried.

They always say that, they don't want you working on your own car. You did a good job, next time will be even easier.
