Why get a camry coupe if you want a fun car?

Maybe the driver didn't want his toupee flying off.

Some people claim neck cramps. Many European convertibles have an wind screens that pop up behind the seats when the top is down.
Before A/C became popular in Europe it was common to see folks driving in city stop and go traffic with the window cracked just a hair in 95f weather because of this neck cramp fear.I saw one guy sweating so bad his wife kept handing him a towel

I got a convertible about 2.5 years ago and always get annoyed when people keep the top up on beautiful days. But there is little I can do except to try to wave them to put the top down. I don't get annoyed with the windows being up unless it is in my car.(MR2 Spyder)

I always put my top down every chance I get, the wind feels great, I have better visability, and the car just looks better.

My GF annoyed me when she first started going for car rides with me because she was worried the wind would ruin her hair. After a good haircut she doesn't have that issue anymore.

My GF still likes to have the windows up, or to be more precise her window up. Some people get convertibles for the ability to say I have one (just like a fast car), but many people don't enjoy them the way they were meant to except on the rare occasion.

The thing that I find interesting is the number of people I see driving around convertibles with cheap fixes in the soft top or towels stuffed under the flap of the rear window (mostly plastic ones instead of glass) on rainy days. Some people love the notion of a convertible and drive a half broken one around as a daily driver. I would never have a convertible as my only car, they are louder than a hard top, expensive to get fixed, and they soft tops do wear down over time. It is very easy to maintain a soft top so that it can last a very long time, but if it is not maintained it is very easy to see neglect (unlike engine oil sludge). Sorry for the mini rant, you struck one of my pet peeves with convertibles. You always pay more for a soft top version of a car than a hard top but many people don't use them properly or neglect them.

I've been driving convertibles for 32 years. I find it tasteless for people to drive like that... like wearing socks with sandals.

I had to laugh a little at that.

My convertible had some "Frankenstein" stitching near the back window. Just a little strip of vinyl that overlapped the glass (real glass) came loose so I sewed it back on with a running stitch and coarse thread that was was a little too dark. It looked funny on close inspection but worked just fine and I didn't have to cough up $2500 for a new top.

Most of my guy friends made fun of my car, Women loved it. Top down, all four windows down on a cool clear night made for good dates.

You're not the first one that endures a little creative repair for the features and benefits of a convertible. I know a few (relative) po-boy British classic owners who manage to keep the thing running, but check the weather report before they ever think of taking it for a spin. They have a tarp in the trunk in case they can't manage a cover to park under in addition to ponchos if all else fails.

Windows up and top down is valid. Nice sunny days with less wind buffeting. It depends on your mood.
If not, a sun/moon roof would also have to be considered useless.

BTW, I have also enjoyed the top down with AC use sometimes.

Top down and windows up for highway driving, top down and windows down for surface street driving. It's too much wind with top down and windows down at 70-80 MPH or higher.

I'll sometime have the windows up on the highways to reduce the noise from the semi engines.
