I just purchased a 2003 Toyota Solara convertible. Is it ok to take this car through an automatic car wash?

Top up or down?

It didn't come with any owners manual. I've searched other sites and main objection to doing it was related to the paint, not the roof. Given the age of my car, I'm not concerned about paint swirls. Just don't want to damage the top.

I would probably avoid it. What type of top does it have? What type of car wash? Back when I was younger I took my '96 through the car wash once of twice and nothing fell off. Looking back, I would consider that abuse.

You got that right! I wouldn't run a hard top through a car wash, so I guess you know what my answer will be.

My grandpa was rushing to a car show two years back, swung his Pontiac Le Mans convertible into a car wash, cost him a new soft top. As the owner of two convertibles that I drive everyday, not a good idea, especially if you're not in a bathing suit. My jerk friends like to test out my window seals with their hoses every time we wash cars together. Theyre not made for horizontal rain

Convertible or not, those automatic car washes are not good for cars' paint. Maybe the "touchless" ones are okay, but if your car is black, you'll want to take a little more care with it. Wash it yourself the first few times at least. You may begin to enjoy doing it -- and you'll certainly see better results than the machines will provide.
