conventional vs synthetic blend

Are Conoco and Trop Artic Synthetic blends in 5w30 and 5w20 as good or equal to Castrol GTX. I do OCI at 2500 miles. Reason I ask is because around here Casrtol GTX runs like $3.99 per quart and I can get the Synthetic Blend Conoco and Trop Artic for around $2.50 per Quart.

I would say they are just as good, if not better in some areas like flowing when cold.

Trop Arctic and Motorcraft synthetic blends are good, inexpensive, and usually easy to track down. I like the CP Kendall GT1 line as well for about a buck more.

Yup, they're solid oils. But I have to ask, why are you doing 2.5k OCIs? Are these vehicles run hard or something

at 2.5k oci I would run the cheapest house brand (walmart or farm store) that meets ur engines specs.

maybe thats just me though.

motor craft syn blend and kendall gt1 (both made by conoco phil) are awesome oils. I would go with atleast a semi./

it does not matter what oil you use at 2.5k...oil is better after 3k actually according to conoco...between 3k-6k oil is at its best, it has something to do with carbon buildup

+1. Conoco/TropArtic/MC are great oils for that price, but any inexpensive SM oil will do. If you go the Conoco route, I would skip the 2500 mile OCI, and leave it in for 4-5k and up to a year. Maybe try Walmart (if you have one close) for Quaker State which is usually about $10 for 5 quarts, or Mobil Clean 5000 which is around $11 for 5. Or if you stick at less than 4k OCI, the Supertech is around $9.50 for a 5 quart jug around here, and would do fine for your current application.
