Here is a interesting story.I went to Canadian Tire to get a Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filter and their oil filter guide is missing pages for what make and year so this guy behind the counter said to me is this your first time putting synthetic in your car and i said yes..he said once you go from conventional to synthetic you cant turn back..lol i said realy.I know this is a myth but what do you think?Any who im sticking to synthetic for the life of the car and i find it cheaper in the long run so that was my choice not his

This is why you don't trust the parts guy at Canadian Tire.

Or plenty of mechanics for that matter.

My life got better when I started researching everything I heard versus listening to what the "wise" had to say, as %90 of it turns out to be vastly wrong.

I just thought to throw out a friday funny when i was told this .All in all the parts guy was talking about other stuff that were making sense but with the old myths on oil, some people set their ways.Nice guy but even a caveman knows better

In Walmart the other day, a tle lady told a customer he could not go from dino to syn or syn to dino but she would find him a semi syn which would be ok.

She told him it was a good thing she asked him otherwise his engine would have stopped working.

WM doesnt require its people to know anything about a car. They asked one guy who applied (and got the job) if he knew what a dipstick was and asked him if he knew how oil is drained out of an engine. You would think with a big (cheap) outfit like the Bentonville bunch, they would at least circulate DVDs or VHS tapes of auto repair basics to show their new people BEFORE they touched your overpriced rolling computer.Heck if they cant afford to make a film, they could at least troll EBAY for old Chrysler "Master Tech" dealer training tapes...

The Canadian Tire guys are worse than the Walmart guys. At Walmart, the staff leave me alone in the automotive section. At Canadian Tire, I'm always inundated with staff (who have likely just barely gotten their driver's licenses) trying to "assist" me or offer "expertise." I've spent more time under the car than they have in the driver's seat.

I would like to visit this place you call Canadian Tire. I have not heard very many good comments about this place. It has it's own mythos here.

Been covered many times. Search function works for that particular question. Yes it's a myth. If they weren't compatible how would blends exists.
Next time your in there as the dunce about blends and how that would work, like do you have to keep using a blend or can you go with either syn or conventional.

Yep, Dave, CT is a unique place. They do have specials, and some of them are okay, but usually not as good as Walmart. They have a decent selection, but conveniently never have enough when they have a special. Realistically, their best price on their house brand doesn't come close to what WM will occasionally sell PYB, QSGB, GTX, or VWB for, let alone what ST will drop to on occasion.

Of course, it doesn't surprise me that the CT floor jockeys spout nonsense and myths about oil, since they have synthetic oil marketing commentary material all over the oil aisles and shelves. You know - better protection, better in cold, better in heat, ignoring the real benefits, ignoring the importance of grade selection, and so forth. I guess they need to justify their atrocious pricing somehow.

This forum is almost to the point of being so repetative it's lost it's ability to provide other valueable information, sad but true.

Tell me about it.The counter parts guy gave me the wrong size oil filter when i was just putting on the filter RiceCake.I didnt see the fool there this morning but if ONLY they take care of their dam parts book and i would have had no problem and done with..you are so right
