Hi was wondering about this , normaly I have run 5w30 conventional year round (GTX).I have changed cars and swithced over to PP for last 3 OCI winter/summers My long-winded question is can or should I run Quaker State Ultimate Durability in winter then switch to Quaker State Advanced Durability dino spring /summer oci .I would do Quaker State Conventional year round but dont know about that -30 pour point would like to do QS cheap enough at Walmart

You can use synthetic in the winter and switch back to conventional for the warmer months without a problem. I think this is even more true today than when synthetics were PAO and POE only.

Run a mixture of 60 % Quaker State Advanced Durability with 40% mixture of Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w20 or 5w30 (what ever your oil cap states) syn blend year round for 4K ~ 5K OCI's - best of both worlds as they are both Quaker State products and the additive packs come from the same supplier . I'm doing the same thing with the sister products of Pennzoil Conventional and Pennzoil Platinum ...my Hyundai runs great on the mixture ! Oil cost is slightly more than a conventional and slightly less than a full synthetic ...no switching back and forth either . I just fill with my ratios and run it !

I 2nd PBM's idea for cost effectiveness.

Pick an oil that meets the spec for your engine and stick with it year round.

+1.....really....why do you want to do this> The difference just a few bucks a year.

If it were me.....I would go with a synthetic year round...and do a longer OCI....in the 7500K range. The longer OCI should just about pay for going 100% synthetic.

Be sure to use a good mid-tier filter...such as a P1 Purolator Classic, Wix, Napa etc.
