Its time to change coolant in all my vehicles, my escape requires conventional green coolant per the manual, the ciera due to its age. Is there any reason that i can't run conventional green coolant in my avalanche and saturn? i know i will need to flush them out well. It would be easier to have the same in all my cars and less different jugs in the garage, not to mention remembering which coolant top off with.
thoughts?

Works for me!

I'm using Peak Global lifetime in everything I touch. The Toyota, Honda, Subaru, GMC/Chevys and Fords.

I'm past having all the different coolants. I settled on Peak because it was the "closest" for the Toyota and works with everything.

Just remember to change it more often than 100k or 5 years and as you stated, FLUSH the old stuff out.

Good to go!

Bill

I'm talking about the non extended life, i don't want to put anything close to the dex cool in my ciera or escape. autozone sells the old green coolant.

okay i was worried about head gaskets, i had one let go in a 93 saturn that i switched to dexcool Huge mistake, just did not want that to happen again wit OAT coolants. so i can use the other extended life coolants with out worry ?

Thanks this is one area i know little about.

Ford backspeced G-05 to '99 for the Escape Ford coolant chart, so you could definitely use it in the Ford to get longer service interval. You could use G-05 in the GM vehicles too. The only issue is that both Green and G-05 contain silicates but I don't think that's going to cause water pump wear. I'd go with G-05 over Green. PGL is an OAT and from the standpoint of gasket compatibility there's no good reason to think that it's OATs are more compatible or that 2-EHA is the issue. I wouldn't use PGL in the Ford.

i'm confused , so i should use oat coolant or not? unless i use the old conventional green coolant i'm going to get oat in any long life coolant? I think in just going to use the old green stuff thats worked for the last 50 years or so in cars.

G-05 is only considered a HOAT because it uses benzoate along with silicates. But benzoate and silicate coolant doesn't have the potential plasticizer qualities of some OATs. Plus G-05 isn't relying solely on OATs. Some of your vehicles might get better protection having the addition of an IAT like silicates. I don't think G-05 would have any worse "OAT qualities" than green would.

Spasm 3,

Don't forget that today's conventional green coolant is not the "green snot o' death" that it used to be. The silicates have been reduced and I would "imagine" that they improved the other chemistry also.

Go to the Zerex site and see that they recommend their green coolant for 5 years/100,000 miles. I wouldn't go that long because I'm entrenched in the old ways, but my daughter's Escort stays squeaky clean with 3 year changes.

Silicates? If I remember correct, the Zerex data sheets shows that the green has LESS than the G05...if they are accurate.

Green would certainly be an option and the formula was updated years ago. Despite the Zerex 5y/100k mile service life, which I think is too long, G-05 is generally considered to be a longer life coolant. Remember, OEMs always rated G-05 longer than Green. I use to think G-05 had slightly more silicates but if you check the current Zerex pds they are the same now with G-05 actually having slightly less 240 ppm vs 250 ppm. G-05 also had slightly better corrosion test results for aluminum and steel (and for copper-brass). G-05's lower pH is probably slightly better for aluminum. I think G-05 has a slight advantage but it's almost a toss up.

Me, too. I just wish our Walmarts (or anywhere else here for that matter) would smarten up and carry the entire Zerex line. They have probably the simplest, easiest to understand, yet most varied product line out there. DexCool, Asian, G-05, diesel coolant, and original green. How much better and more straightforward can a product line get?

Our Canadian Tires tend to have a bunch of no name coolants and if you don't have a cheat sheet of manufacturers' specs and product data sheets with you, you're in trouble.

I use the Peak Longlife. It says it is silicate free and compatible with every other coolant. I have had zero problems with it. I have topped off other coolants and also used it after complete flushes. And love the fact that ACE hardware has it on sale at least once a year.
