Continental SecureContact AW

@rstcso - Are the VC8's going on just in case of fun weather in TX?
100%. I asked my wife if she'd promise not to go out if I left the OEM tires on, but she refused to make that promise. The next logical thing for me to do was put them on in case she felt compelled to go out. She knows how to drive on ice and snow, but it's the 99% of drivers near where we live that don't. At least I want her to have a fighting chance. My preference is still not to go out at all.

When I lived in San Diego, I refused to go out if it rains. Only if it is multiple rain days, I would go out after it washes that grease. Everyone drives on slicks, and cheapest possible tires.

That is a great opportunity to try both under same conditions. If only you knew someone close with some CrossClimate 2's or other all weather versions to compare.

I did that with my kids cars, them driving around on almost new, good all seasons on a decent snow. Swapped to the 4x winter in the driveway and sent them back out to try. They of course now experienced it themselves.

The SecureContact AW are getting good reviews from buyers at T.R. .

This is informative .

Sipes look to be 1/2 or close to 2/3s' to the base of the tire .

I wonder if these will kill your mpg like the cc2s did. It was like I was pulling a plow when I had them on. I gave them away with 8-9 32nds to a coworker in need who’s suv used the same size. While my cross contacts aren’t quite as good in the snow, the tradeoff is fine.

more grip equals more friction which should drop fuel economy (by how much I can’t say)…I’ll take grip over fuel economy any day...

how much grip to give up for how much fuel economy is the compromise we all make...

Seen reviews for the SecureContact AW and a few buyers stated very little , if any drop in F.E.. One of them is a E.V.. You can find reviews of these by using search . CANADA had these introduced last year .

Talks of having the SECURECONTACT AW ( starts @ 5:45 ) on his Maverick and test driving them in CANADA during the winter . Also good details about the MAVERICKS .

Deep sipes . 🤤

The SecureContact AW versus Michelin CC2

......I look at my data comparing the Michelin and the Continental in the dry, wet, snow, and ice, noise comfort, and rolling resistance to find out exactly which of the two tires is best! The test size is 235/45 R18...

How is the treadwear? There are some TR comments that they wear rapidly. More like a 35-40k mi tire before needing replacement.
