What do you wear, and any recommendations?

I'm thinking about going to AcuVue IIs, as I see that they only run $120 for a yearly supply from 800 Contacts.

Currently wearing glasses...figures that this would be cheaper (contacts) that getting new glasses each time I need a new prescription.

TIA.

What? No one?

Any suggestions on AcuVue Oasis? Got a quote for $180/yearly supply...

Hey Gang.

I have astigmatism in my right eye, so contacts run me about 120 for six months.

The best thing to do, is go by what your doctor recommends. I wanted to go with one of the johnson and johnson contacts, but was recommended something else.

As for the supplies, I have had great luck with Walmart Equate brand cleaning solution and eye drops.

Its made by a company called sight savers which owned by bauch and lomb.

Its like 4 bucks for two big bottles of solution, versus like 5 bucks for one bottle of name brand stuff, and in my opinion works better and holds moisture better than stuff i've used in the past.

Contacts cheaper than glasses??? HAAAAAAAAA

If new lenses cost you more than 360 bucks every 2 years than you are getting RAPED. Not to mention cleaning them etc. etc. etc. I've had the same frames since I needed to get glasses 5 years ago and have only needed one new prescription, and believe me, my eyes are MESSED UP.

But, my eyes are sooo messed up (mega astigmatism and too thin a cornea) that I can't even wear contacts so I guess that's why I have a grudge

Get Lasik surgery. It will pay for itself in the long run. I got Radial Keratotomy surgery 16 years ago and I still don't wear anything except at night (Glasses). I hated wearing hard contacts - felt like glass in my eyes!

I believe I have Acuvue 2 - the price looks right - got mine at Wal-Mart. I'll double check what brand I have tonight once I get home from work.

Anyway, these contacts are the best - I can wear them all day and hardly notice them. When playing computer games and/or reading - usually switch to my glasses tho. So far I've been able to wear a pair for 1 month so that makes a 6 month supply last about a year as they are 2 week contacts I believe. As always check with your doctor to see how your eyes are handling the contacts - some people do better/worse with them.

I have worn gas permeables for almost 20 years. I use to wear the daily softs and went to the extended wears. Came back to the Gas Perms because the were more comfortable and let in more O2 than the softs. The upside over the softs is I only have to replace them every three or four years.
Plus the vision is much sharper with the hard lens than the soft lens. If your into any type of contact sports go with the soft lens. For Scuba diving I have a set of special over size soft lens that will not come out underwater.
I went for the Lasik about three years ago and was told I wasn't a candidate. The only option was a lens replacement like they do for cataracts.
I didn't get it done when I found out I would probably have to wear reading glasses afterward. When the short distance vision becomes a problem, then I'll get it done.

I tried the acuvue 2 a while back, they were terrible. They dried up, fell out, and everything else. I use Bosch&lamb, they just changed their name, but they are cheap ($20 a box).

I wear Rigid Gas Perm lenses. Have for about 20 years, I'm 35.

I have to wear one on my right eye due to astigmatism. I could wear a soft on my left eye, but I choose to wear both gas perms.

I take them out EVERY night, wash them and put them in solution. Put them in every morning.

They last for years. I think the pair I have are over 4 years old. They cost about $100 each.

And yes, they are worth the hassle. I cannot see very good with glasses. I could have Lasik on my left eye. I have not checked into the new surgery for my right eye.

I have Boston OX lenses. These RGP lenses last 2-3 years with good care. I always have two pairs that I rotate. I wear them about 18 hours every day. I've worn contacts for 20 years now.

If you have to wear lenses more than 8 hours a day, ask your ophthalmologist for lenses with the highest oxygen transmissibility (DK) that you can comfortably wear. I say comfortably, because high oxygen transmissibility is currently achieved with a high silicone content. Your doctor can and should test your tear fluid's composition to find a good contact lens material for you. You yourself can absolutely not make an informed decision when browsing online specials.

Oh, and keep your lenses clean and don't wear them beyond their expiration date. Even if they look okay, the material degrades over time.

A good brand cleaning products for a good price is Lobob.

Here's a good article on contacts.

I'm pushing the lens down with my upper eyelid so that you may see the lens better. I'm the freaky Bionic Man!

I had the Acuvue2 and now have the Ciba Vision Day/Night lenses.

They are much better, but tear more easily. I can do 3 or 4 days with them in. (They are designed as 30 day wearables, but I only go a few before cleaning them.)

I wore the old rigid, non-permeable lenses from the time I was nine until about age nineteen. Dry eye was always a problem. Have worn glasses since then (1978).

I do miss the better peripheral vision contacts afford, but the problems outweighed the benefits for me.

As to surgical "correction" . . it's regulated as cosmetic. No thanks. My opthamologist tried to talk me into radial keratotomy 25-years ago. I still read up on the latest and greatest procedures, but find the chances -- the odds -- still not to my liking.

Glad all of you have found what you like. I'm irked at the poor quality of plastic lenses that yellow and degrade after three years, so I may go with a British optician next time to get high-index glass (I'm at -4.25 diopters on both eyes with some astigmatism).

I've worn contacts for over 20 years. I've had so many brands over the years I lost count. The last 10 years Ive been wearing several of the different Acuvue's. A few months ago, I went to the new Acuvue Oasys.

Bottom line....Oasys lenses are worth every cent. I wear them for 14 days straight and they are comfortable the entire time. I highly recommend giving them a shot.
