ConsumerGuide test drive : '22 Mercedes-Benz E450 All-Terrain

Good lord. Can we please skip with the pretentious jacked up off road appearance and just make it a regular wagon instead? How many people are going to take this thing off road? If someone wants an SUV, they'll get an SUV. I just want a classy sedan with extra cargo space. I don't want cheap looking fender arches and raised suspension that negatively affects handling.

Actually, bit raised wagon is IMO super usable. Keeps good road manners, and clearance gives bit more access in deep snow, access to some bike trailes. I highly doubt that is aimed at off roading.

So they named it "All-Terrain" for nothing? :)
I would not give too much attention to the article unless MB really tried to make off-road vehicle with such clearance. Audi Allroad is a good example of how that concept can work. I highly doubt MB is going to say: yep, take it offroad. Authors are using that term, IMO, as sensationalism.

All terrain is marketing.

Except the Allroad was not a big success. Probably for reasons other than failing to attract it's intended market, granted.

The Merc would probably look better in person than in print. Just like the WRX might too.

Mercedes has had 4matic in their wagons for a while. The AMG ones in a wagon really command a premium. One of the few AMG models that could command 10-20k extra over a regular AMG sedan model. The regular models don't command any premium though. For the airmatic, there was a button that allowed you to raise the height of the airmatic suspensions or you could use the Star/Xentry system to permanently raise it, most people used that to lower the car.

It is excellent vehicle and concept. In Europe is far more common.

Soccer moms picking up kids at a private school will love this type of vehicle.
Needs a few more options. That's just the standard package pretty much all of them have. Most of them don't do the lighting package, head-up display, massage seats, dashcam, warmth and comfort package, soft close doors etc.

As for the soccer moms, they could just as easily drive a GLS suv. Wagons seem to appeal to the people who don't like climbing into an SUV or people with dogs who can't climb that high into an SUV.

Good to see the classic Subaru Forrester formula of 20+ years ago can still be used today. Luxury car wagons generally sell as well as beach wear in the middle of winter, and I don't see the new E450 All Terrian changing that fact.

When Karen gets wasted on wine it might go off road.
