ConsumerGuide test drive : '22 Mercedes-Benz E450 All-Terrain

Love wagons, especially love Euro wagons, love the concept. The cladding looks awful on such an otherwise classy car, if you want that level of gaudy just buy a Subaru.

Good lord. Can we please skip with the pretentious jacked up off road appearance and just make it a regular wagon instead? How many people are going to take this thing off road? If someone wants an SUV, they'll get an SUV. I just want a classy sedan with extra cargo space. I don't want cheap looking fender arches and raised suspension that negatively affects handling.
Because it doesn't sell. The fake SUV look sells.

There's a reason why Subaru stopped selling the regular Legacy wagon for the Outback only version.

Only Volvo sells a V60 wagon alongside the V60 Cross-Country, but the V60 wagon is a PHEV only.

Good to see the classic Subaru Forrester formula of 20+ years ago can still be used today. Luxury car wagons generally sell as well as beach wear in the middle of winter, and I don't see the new E450 All Terrian changing that fact.
It's new marketing with the term All Terrain, they've had a 4matic station wagon for a long time. Sales of the station wagon were always low. It's the AMG station wagons that really held their value vs the sedans. Still it's good they went with bigger model for the wagon. Before it was just the E350 4matic in a wagon or the AMG models, they didn't do an E550 in a Wagon and now they don't have an E350 in a wagon so at least you don't get stuck with a weaker engine in the wagon. A regular E450 would be almost 75k with the same type of options.
