Consistently the most dangerous stretch of Interstate in the USA Fall- Winter- Spring- I80 Wyoming

Not sure is the video from a few days ago is viewable from the link below. Video gives just a normal example of what I80 in Wyoming is often like in the winter. Video is misleading as the traffic is stopped. Trying to drive in this stuff adds a completely different dynamic, and the grades get crazy, along with the curves.

Looks like alot of spots along i80 in Wyoming is also orange/red at the moment. I've only driven through i80 in Wyoming once. Beautiful place; although dangerous.

Meh.....a mere spring flurry.
You are correct. Just a little snow. It is the non-stop hurricane like winds, along with the road grades, and curves that make the little snow into a devastating situation, day in and day out.

Here are a couple Wyoming action photos for your viewing pleasure. The top photo is my old Nissan pickup.

Our bad actor is Paulson Summit to Kootenay pass just north of the border between Washington State and British Columbia. Paulson Summit is at about 5,000 ft and then you descent to the town of Castlegar on the Columbia River at 1,600 ft and the climb back up to the Kootenay Pass at 5,800 ft. It’s treacherous during snowstorms.

I-80 in Wyoming yesterday. This is only the first week of November. I-80 in Wyoming is the most dangerous stretch of interstate in CONUS- no other stretch of interstate comes close.

Very risky for truckers to try and drive on that highway.

I like cold weather but not a few feet of snow. 🥶

The stretch of Interstate on I80 from Evanston, WY to Cheyenne, WY has to be the worst stretch of Fall- Winter- Spring driving in CONUS on a regular basis. I have driven all over the USA for decades in bad weather. Drove mountain passes in Afghanistan. , All of Alaska. I70 Denver to Grand Junction... yawn....Donner pass, easy as eating a pancake compared to I80 in Wyoming.

The reason this is so crazy dangerous is the winds. Near CAT 1 hurricane force winds on a REGULAR basis. The causes any moisture to be a major accident waiting to happen. Add all the dynamic road grades, curves, and lack of visibility. Just insane.

I have been stuck at least 10 times a minimum of 12 plus hours on this stretch of I80 over the past three years. It can get crazy bad in October. I have seen mile after mile of small trailers forced off their tow vehicle and the shoulder being a "trailer graveyard".

I am a big proponent of going an extra 100-200 miles and bypassing I80 in Wyoming if feasible.

If you ever are taking (or planning on) I80 through Wyoming in the Fall- Winter- Spring, highly recommend monitoring the web-site every 30 minutes:

I also think there are large stretches along there with nothing. No gas stations, stores, pull off areas. Yeah and the wind can kick up from nowhere causing complete white outs.

Every time there's a thread like this, I want to generate a "Map of Dangerous Roads" featuring all cited.

Do enough trucks blow over to justify the cost of developing alternative routes...like tunnels?
Do enough vehicles see delays and damage such that drivers stay off .......and then cause extreme "post storm" traffic jams?

Have you been west of the Mississippi?

Not saying it is a bad road but was on my Harley riding from Flagstaff to Winslow, Az. because I wanted to stand on the corner in Winslow, AZ. The wind coming from the south(my right side) was so strong I had to lean at a 45 deg angle just to stay on the highway. It was very tiring and when I came up on a semi which was all over the road, I turned around and went back to Flagstaff. No way could I have passed him. It is an example of how you'd better have respect for the west. It's unforgiving.

Still maintain the assessment that I80 in Wyoming is the most dangerous interstate in the U.S. from October through April. There is not even a close second to the danger I 80 in Wyoming regularly imposes, and often without notice from weather forecasts.

For those with Facebook- here is a very tiny example of a regular occurrence on Wyoming's I80. Of note this is a very lightly populated area- yet look how many big wreckers on this scene..... and I am sure many more doing like recoveries not far away from this scene:
