Conscious Sedation

Got to experience that today, courtesy of Versed and Fentanyl administered for a cataract procedure on my left eye. 53 yrs old, was told kind of young for having an operable cataract already. I remember the meds flowing into my arm, then being wheeled out of step-down to out processing and met there by my fiance. I was like, "wow that didn't take but a few minutes." But was apparently just over 15 min in procedure and 45 or so in step down, LoL. No memory of my eye being incisioned and all that, why I am grateful for. No memory of step-down. I have missing time !! Just hoping I didn't say any stupid stuff during the time I was zombified.

I am now looking forward to better vision out of that eye. Symptom was double/ghost imaging on everything, not severe and the right eye is good so binocular vision wasn't compromised too much, but main thing was night time vision for driving, and especially riding, needed to be tweaked so I chose to just get it done now. I had LASIK done in 2003 and for this op they had to use an extra machine called an Aura or similar that can better zero in on the contouring the LASIK put on my eye, in order to optimize the prescription correction of the artificial lens that replaces the cataract mottled one.

Versed has an amnesic effect. Even if you were awake in recovery/stepdown, you might not remember it.

People worry about that all the time, I've administered versed for years. No patient has told embarrassing things, or given away any "secrets".

Don't know what they used on my son this morning but he had all 4 wisdom teeth removed and was back awake in less than 30 minutes. He was in and out of the office in less an hour.


These modern anesthesia drugs are really good.

People worry about that all the time, I've administered versed for years. No patient has told embarrassing things, or given away any "secrets".

Yup. I have had some say some funny things, but no secrets or really embarrassing things.
Ketamine is a good one too, but is usually for reductions and such.

Confessing love to the nurse if she's cute. That's probably the most embarrassing, but very common, effect.

When I had my lens implants in I got only local anesthetic. The reason...if you would have to sneeze the doc needs to stop briefly what he is doing.

After coming awake, the staff said I was talking up a storm at 100 mph, but, couldn't understand a word. I wonder if they lied )

You are not in jail.... so its all good.

Maybe you propositioned a good looking nurse and will get a late night call.
