Just as my subject read, does Conoco/Phillips make good, reliable motor oils or am I better off using a different, more superior brand?

They sure do....take a look at Motorcraft synthetic blend at WM. I picked up a couple of jugs of Kendall Titanium Synthetic Blend Dino Diesel oil in 15w40 at a Flying J truck stop here in Florida. Only $13 a gallon for some added protection.

added protection for an engine which specs 15-40? or are you back to dimming the lights, closing your eyes and coming up with a new mixture for your friends and neighbors?

Short answer: Yes, they make good stuff. Motorcraft oils are ConocoPhillips products, and generally pretty easy to find and reasonably priced. I've also used Kendall in recent years with no issues to report.

I can understand a more 'superior' product, such as synthetic as opposed to conventional, but I believe 'superior' depends on product and not necessarily brand. Then again, I suppose one could argue brands like Kendall, Pennzoil, Mobil, etc. are 'superior' brands compared to something like Walmart's SuperTech.

Having said that, I think CP's products are a bit of a dark horse compared to other brands, but there is no doubt they have an excellent range of top notch lubricants - especially for the price! I would blindly use any of their products, which matches the application.

Motorcraft oils are probably the best bargains out there..I just bought several 5 quart jugs of 5w20 Motorcraft Blend at W.M. for 14 bucks a piece..I have used almost nothing but Motorcraft since 1988 and put between 200 and 300K miles on all my cars.

Yes

Motorcraft oils made by ConocoPhillips are recommended by FoMoCo for all their vehicles...must be at least equal to the "superior" oils in the opinion of Ford.

I've used Kendall, 76, and Motorcraft oils for many years with great satisfaction. The UOAs confirm their worth.

I've never seen Concoco branded oils in my area, but the Phillips, 76, Motorcraft, and Kendall products can be found. Interestingly, Conoco and Pennzoil built the Excel Paralubes hydrocracking facility as a joint venture years ago. Pennzoil made a big deal about their PureBase base oils from this plant, but I think that since SOPUS took over, they don't use it anymore. Conoco still uses these base stocks though.

So, in answer to your orginal question, yes they is.

I'm using this brand based on the very positive replies given on this subject. CurrentlyI'm trying the Kendall "Titanium" synthetic oil which is made by Conoco Phillips. So far it appears to do what everyone says it does.
