This is in regard to oil filters for Hyundai/Kias with the 2.4L Theta II, should be part number 26300-35505.

I'm on google and these forums trying to find definite information about the overall performance (because I know they are of good quality) compared to an aftermarket filter, say FRAM.

The next oil change for my 2019 Kia Sportage is due in 2500 miles and I was going to stick with OEM because I bought into the "Hyundai won't cover the warranty unless you have a OEM filter installed" (and something to do with the "flow/pressure" idk sounds like bs) back when I had my 2017 Sonata. But now I'm considering trying the one of the frams. I've only used those for engine flushes because they're cheap yet effective. But if they do filter at a higher efficiency I'm inclined to go with that. I think the above notion of the warranty being voided by oil filter hasn't been fully substantiated, all I've seen is speculation.

Anyone here want to chime in?

Not sure what is meant by "overall performance". If it means filter efficiency, as a rule OEM efficiency info difficult to find as it's generally proprietary. That said, Hyundia used to publish an efficiency spec, of ~99% @50 um, being kind not very efficient. Haven't seen that in a while but I'd have no reason to think it's changed.

As for warranty automatically voided if other than OEM used, if that's in writing then they are supposed to pay for the filter. Why I doubt you'll find it in writing. I'm not to get into all MMWA minutia, it's been covered many times. But, reading here, many members use other than OEM on their Hyun/Kia with no issues. In the end, your Hyun, your call.

What makes you think you'll get better information from here ? It's always safe to use an OEM filter and while I doubt Hyundai or Kia publish the specs for their OEM filter, it's not rocket science so if Fram or Wix or Purolator says they have a filter that works, you can trust it will be okay. When it comes to warranty claims, not having an OEM filter can just be an excuse they use to deny the claim and 95% of people will just say "okay" and sulk away (and pay out of pocket).

How much does the dealer charge for an OEM filter ? O'Reilly sells 'em for $14 so I bet the dealer is 50-75% lower. I'll pay $8-10 for an OEM filter. I've only got one vehicle under warranty, a Toyota, but they only charge $6 for their filters. Otherwise, I'll use Fram, Premium Guard, Microgard, and others. If I had a Hyundai/Kia and engine problems, I'd switch filters to OEM before going to the dealer ! 😂

A car dealership can only deny the factory warranty on whatever got damaged if they can prove that the aftermarket part caused the failure which resulted in the damage. Of course, many dealers don't know that, and think they can void the whole warranty on the vehicle if some aftermarket part is used. In other words, if an aftermarket oil filter was used, and the power windows motor failed, the dealer can't deny the warranty on that just because an aftermarket filter was used. But if the engine was damaged from an aftermarket filter, then the dealer could deny warranty and tell you to make a claim with the filter company.

Try it, it will be fine.
Back in the day I went to different shop for cheap oil change. They use unbranded cheap filter. Engine didn't blow.

What do you gain from switching to Fram? Build quality and quality control seems non-existent with most aftermarket filters nowadays. I would be inclined to stay with OE if there are any warranty concerns. Magnuson-Moss blah blah blah, save yourself the headache

Thank you all for the replies. I wasn't getting notified for some reason.

I will try FRAM for the whole OCI. I've not had problems with OEM and I can see many others here don't either. I'm not worried I will have problems but I suppose you could call it peace of mind if using something better.

And yes it was to attain better filtering efficiency. Now if someone wanted to pull the spreadsheets and charts saying "well over xyz interval, a filter efficiency of this vs that doesn't matter" I say... Cool. I'm going to give the FRAM a go. The Titanium and Sythentic Endurance I'm not familiar with but they look worth it, so I'll buy the latter if my WM has it in stock for my car.
