Conducting your business inside a coffee shop

I’ve tried doing my business inside the coffee shop but they say the restroom is for employees only
I had to put an "employees only" sign on the bathroom door at my store because it wasn't ADA compliant (and couldn't be made ADA compliant, too small). Regardless, my customers knew that they were welcome to use it whenever they needed to.
I know some other businesses that did the same but did it because it attracted a large number of homeless people.

Just spent a few minutes in Starbucks with wifey; I saw 2 young ladies studying together with their books, working through some formulas. "Excuse me, but what are you guys working on?" "Our Chemistry." I muttered, "P1 V1 over T1 = P2 V2 over T2; or something like that." They laughed but were kinda impressed. "That was well over 50 years ago!" I told them, "Wifey minored in Chem at San Jose State." Then they were impressed.

We hit up Starbucks off Sand Hill Road in Palo Alto, near Stanford U. I am always encouraged by all the students racking their brains at the coffee shop.

I've done business, developed some tough business algorithms for hours on end with my PhD friends there as well.

Who is being harmed?

Certainly not the business that allows this particular customer to stay.

Maybe the OP's fragile sensibilities?
I'm not saying anyone is being harmed in the OP's situation. My point is, words like "harm" and "hurt" carry different connotations amongst the masses, like it or not.

I was down on my luck in 2010 and due to lay offs was starting my own "consulting" business just enough business to keep my head afloat. I worked out of several chain restaurants, coffee shops, truck stops, all to a varying degree of interaction's with staff and customers alike. Back then, hot spots and mobile tethering was cost prohibitive. I didn't spend 8 hours at a time there for my own sanity sake.

Out of all of them, Starbucks always treated me right, were never rude, offered free refills and genuinely cared that I was a regular. I rotated through a few stores in my area and kept to my clean self. I'll always hold Starbucks stock and always prefer Starbucks due to this.

I am sorry to have bothered you @Finklejag
You’re bothering me with your loud typing.

In my area there is a homeless gentleman who has lived outside Starbucks for a few years now, he has his own YT channel where you can watch hours of mental illness, he accepts handouts to buy cigarettes right next door at the gas station, and leeches the starbucks internet 24x7, no doubt sponge bathes there as well. All the while the soccer moms and day workers endlessly fill the drive through line overpaying for overly acidic and overpriced coffee. I dont bother him or wish him ill, life goes on and I have bigger things to think about.

Couple things:

1) Super common in college towns. No one including the staff of local businesses would even think twice about it.

2) Maybe his residence only has cable or DSL internet connection cause it’s older and he doesn’t have an office proper to go to. My neighborhood is older and we didn’t get fiber until several years ago. Working from home back then was nearly impossible. I’ve camped out before. Not that much though.

So I stop by my local neighborhood independent coffee shop multiple times a week. Every time I visit, there is a guy at one of the bar tops with his whole laptop station set up. It doesn’t matter the time of day or day of the week, he is always there. I asked one of the workers if he stays all day and they said yes. I wonder how many coffees he buys in the 8 hours he is there? I take it the owner doesn’t care that he hangs out all day. I just find it tacky that he chooses to do his remote work from inside a coffee shop 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Free internet?
