Commuting thread - how's yours these days?

I average about 200+ KM (120 Miles) per day... I work on the road, so I guess you could consider this my commute.

12 miles one way, 5 miles of that in towns, 6 stop lights, down a valley lined with green rolling hills and small farms. takes 20 minutes. can't complain at all.

In 2005 I had nearly the same commute, just to a different part of town.

my commute for the last 2 years has been 2 miles one way. takes about 3 minutes, with traffic maybe 4 or 5.

considering moving to 30 - 40 miles away for buying a rural property out int he sticks. Not sure if I'd be happy driving it. I could do extended OCI's then. 1 year / 30,000 km...

I've become very spoiled by my commute. 5 miles one-way, and I don't have to get on any of the congested highways. I get there at 7am, so I beat a majority of the traffic. It's pretty smooth sailing.

The downside to this is that my car probably never gets fully warmed up, and I've become increasingly intolerant of traffic snarls when I go other places besides work.

I have to drive 23 miles one way to work 5 times a week. I have a 2007 Honda Accord with a 4 banger and get 34 to 37 MPH. So it is not to bad at all....and that is a 4 door model.

A few months ago, it was 32 miles each way. Now it's down to one and a half! Coolant dosen't even get close to operating temp. Oil is probably still cold enough to hurt.

Pictures!

It's all two-lane country roads! About, hmm, four traffic lights in 12.8 miles, all on the half of the drive closest to the city.

Speed limits 35-50 MPH, can do 10 over, except on sundays when the blue hairs are out.

Bought my first motorcycle last fall, cannot wait to take it to work next spring.

Commute is actually much less stressfull these days. Its unfortunate that the real reason is the thousands of lay-offs being announced daily.

30 miles each way. Takes me 30min. I do a regular rotating 12hr shift so on an overtime free month (rarely if ever happens), I only have to do it 14x.

My latest job is driving around greater Boston from customer to customer in an E 150 van. I walk out my door, climb into my van, and my commute is over. Previously, my 31 mile commute into Boston took an hour on a really good day.

My commute is about 50 miles each way 5 days a week. Roads are rural 2 lane with lots of heavy/oversize truck traffic. Takes me about 50-55 minutes from door to door depending on weather. We do see some snow and black ice but I think the worst thing is the idiots who feel that they must put studded tires on their 4 wheel/all wheel drive vehicles so they can continue to drive 70 mph on ice. Most of the wrecks seem to be these type of vehicles.

I divide my time between two cities where I have houses and offices. In Santa Cruz I live 1.2 miles from my office. No traffic lights or stop signs.

In Tarija I have 2 acres of fruit and vegetables 14 miles from my office and 500 ft lower in altitude. But just put the top down and cruise the little mountain road and it is a short drive. I still go home for lunch.

Been driving 95 miles each way for six years! Job was supposed to last 18 months which is why I didn't move. Well the project is now over and I'm one of three still here closing down the place - should be over in a month or two.

I've logged over 290,000 miles mostly on two vehicles. I change oil every four to six weeks (which is why I have my own strategic oil reserve in the garage).

^ WOW!

My commute is 30 mi in morning (have to drop kid off at school), and 17 mi in evening. In the morning, I'm usually driving for 45-50 minutes. 25 minutes in the evening.

One night (first seasonal snow), it took 1 hr, 45 minutes to get home (17 miles!). Yes, I could have rode my bicyle faster.

23 miles of country 2-lane road with occasional stop signs. Dry pavement, good weather average is 30 minutes. Speeds vary from 45 to 75mph+.

Because of winter conditions mine has been longer. The roads have cleared, but last week has been tough. Buses, trains, and slow moving vehicles have all be teaming up against me. As soon as I figure out how to pass the trains, I'll be good.
