The one's that come to mind are:

1. The naked in public dream-- you know the one, in the dream you're out and about in the world and suddenly realize you're butt naked. I haven't had that one in a very long time.

2. The high school and/or college dream -- In this one you're back in school even at your current age and you can't always figure out why. I have this one once in a while and I'm usually back at college and realize I've been skipping a class all semester and the final is tomorrow or something, but I'm usually my current age during the dream, not young again.

3. The prior dwelling dream -- this one more rare, but I have had it for each former house I've ever lived in. Dream I'm back in the house usually with a family member who also used to live there and we're checking the place out knowing we no longer live there and in fact start to suddenly realize WTH are we doing here we could get caught for trespassing or worse if the current owners come home and a feeling of panic starts to spin up. I've had this one about the old childhood home, the first house my late wife and I owned, and the 2nd house we owned, all while no longer actually living in those houses.

4. The defective gun dream -- You're in defensive or otherwise situation and have a gun but it doesn't work right. I used to have this one once in a while and it was always the same, always a pistol and the bullet would always only lob out of the barrel like an slow artillery shell and I'd have to be arcing my shots in toward whatever was after me, like pea shooter artillery.

5. The running under water dream -- Not always actually under water but it's like you're trying to run while standing on the ocean floor or something, you have to lean forward into it and you move in slow motion, but you're not necessarily under water you might be in a field trying to get away from a lion or something.

6. The falling off a precipice dream -- you all know this one. Best to wake up before you splat onto the ground far below.

7. The driving in reverse really fast and can't brake dream. This beauty might just be mine only. I used to dream once in a while that I was driving in reverse pretty fast and no matter how much I jammed the brakes the car doesn't slow down.

All I can think of right now.

Nope, never had any like that.

I once had a dream where I ate an enormous turkey dinner, woke up the next morning and my pillow was gone.

#2, back in either college or high school and have no idea what class I should be at or even where it is
#4, hunkered down behind a berm with viet cong coming fast..M16 trigger won't pull, it's jammed...

Funny that these are common...must be metaphors for life's common problems..

The dreams/nightmares that stand out to me were being back in high school and something bad happening to my truck. It probably ties in when I was younger.

I don't really have any of those. But...
I have one recurring dream about the Navy.

I was the piloting radar operator on my first Submarine, was the most stressful job I have ever had.

I dream that I am on the radar and we run aground or hit another ship. Wakes me up in a cold sweat.
Last time I sat on the radar was 1999.

Another one is related to submarines it usually fire or flooding...ah good time.

A common theme of the OP's (and my occasional)dreams is anxiety brought on by the inability to control whats going on no matter how hard you try. These are referred to as anxiety dreams, a notch or two below nightmares. I sometimes wake up in a sweat, happy to realize that I DON'T have to figure out how to put back together that engine that is spread out on the garage floor in 800 pieces...or, something similar!

Try to force a dream of being down at spring break in Florida? No chance.

I’ve had 7, though it is usually backing down the drive way and the car won’t stop...

When I was very young I had 1 but it was going to school and realizing I forgot to put pants on...

no explanation of why no one clued me in until like the 3rd class of the day, like no one on the bus noticed...?

The only one I have is #2. I think it's fairly common.

At one point in my career I was preparing written and oral exams and administering oral exams to stressed out candidates. I started to have more #2 dreams so after a couple of years of that I quit doing it.

#3 the prior dwelling dream, with our first house after marriage.

I've had spates of dreams involving cars I had as a young man. Probably wishing for youth. Sometimes involves still having the car, only to wake disappointed.

I am flying relief supplies in the Amazon jungle and my plane crashes.

I awake to find that 50 Amazon beauties are taking care of me. Do I want to wake up - NO!

The anxiety ones are most of what mine are. I get a lot of ones where I have to very violently defend myself/ kill someone then wake up panting. Occasionally I get a naked woman comming on to me but then as much as I try I can't preform not from impotence but from distractions and that causes an anxiety issue also.

I also get anxiety ones about having to pee but can't. I have had to train myself to wake up on that one because when I finally do find a place to pee it can happen in real life.

Oooh, yeah the pee dream. Forgot about that one. I'll typically have it after awaking a few times in the middle of the night having to actually go but putting it off and drifting back to sleep. Then I'll dream I have to go *really* bad, I'm stepping up to a toilet or urinal to cut loose like a fire hose and then I wake up abruptly and it is GO TIME baby, get out of bed and go for real or else...
