This regards the Ranger in my signature.
The shift has become somewhat sloppy over the years, and it has started having an issue that when it is placed into drive it is somewhat of a coin toss as to whether or not it will engage in drive. The issue presents when I am entering traffic and the truck will start stammering, and I either have to jiggle the shift lever, or pull over and place it in park and shift through the gears to get it to fully engage.
Normally, I just mess with it and motor on, but after almost getting run over yesterday on the road when it did it, I've come to the conclusion that it needs to be addressed. Since I've never had such an issue as this in all my years, I'm not sure where to start ( Inside the column, under the hood, etc.) or whether this is an issue that one of my regular jack of some trades mechanics can do, or whether I need someone versed in transmission issues.
All constructive guidance is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
