Collinite 915

I read a lot of posts on here about Collinite 476S and 815, but no posts about 915.

I have read that the only difference between 915 and 476S is that 915 contains 24% more carnauba wax, which should improve its shine but at the expense of a slight loss in durability. Also, Collinite's website states that 915 is a bit easier to apply and remove.

So, has anyone used the 915? How does it compare to 476S in your experience?

Just ordered a 12oz can from eBay. $20.70 shipped.

The Duragloss 105 I installed doesn't feel slick after only a week and one wash. Very weird.

I think you would be very hard pressed to determine a noticeable difference between any of the Collinite waxes. Yes, they have slightly different formulations, but I think the results will be comparable.

I have 476S and 845, have tested them side-by-side, and cannot tell a difference. I see no reason for me to buy 915, but give it a shot if you'd like. $20 is a good deal.

From my understanding the 845 and 476 are pretty much the same thing. With the 845 just being thinned out more to be a liquid.

A lot will depend on the vehicle use, how it stored and etc, if its a Sunday only clear weather garage stored vehicle or a worker. Some like to use a base of 476 followed with second coat of 915.

Personally, I only use the 476. I posted this picture IIRC last September on my '05 Dakota right after being clay barred and one application of 476. The truck is a worker, stored outside 100% of time and a daily driver.

During the winter it only had only an occasional quick wash to remove the road grime, road salt and the mud form a few trips over the dirt roads in the mountains. Like I said, its a working truck.

Here it is a week ago after a good hand washing and dried with microfiber towels, nothing else done except cleaning the vinyl ( mirrors, door handles) with Mother's Back to Black.

Well, I lied a little on the nothing else done. I give the engine bay a cleaning with Simple Green.

I'd give them both a try and see which one you like and what seems to hold up the best depending how you use and store the vehicle.

I have wondered the same thing. The product descriptions in on the Collinite website are confusing.

Here is what they say about 476s:

Collinite Super Doublecoat is guaranteed to outlast and outshine any other competitive auto wax, polish or protective coating under any conceivable condition. That's why it's called the PERMANENT AUTO WAX.

And here is 915:

For the BEST in wax endurance, Marque d'Elegance is the product to have. Car enthusiasts demand a wax that is proven to protect in the most demanding environments, rain or shine, on track or on the street.

So one is PERMANENT and one is the BEST in wax endurance? LOL. Who writes this nonsense? Which one offers the most long term protection? I think I'm just going to go with 476s when I buy some because it seems to be more widely used and proven. I have no previous experience with Collinite so I am excited to try it.

Lets start with some background on 915... Here is a quote from autopia, but when I was buying collinite, I found similar info in many places...

Now, this is a relevant thread as Ive recently waxed my wife's 08 rabbit. I started with 476, which Ive used before on it. Put two coats after washing with autoglym last weekend. Went on easy, came off fine.

This weekend washed with gold class car wash. Then we applies 915, which Ive never used before.

IMO, the 915 was harder to put on, because it was tougher to work onto a pad from the can. It didnt apply as easily, likely because it was less solvent, more wax. However, it did remove easier.

IMO, the 915 left less slippery after bufed than fresh 476. the car was already nice and smooth and slippery since I only put the 476 on last weekend, but nothing new in terms of feel.

Ill have to look again tomorrow, but I think the 915 adds a tiny bit of "depth" to the color of her sage green VW.

So overall, the 915 has pros and cons, but IMO if I didnt apply it, I would not miss it... It will be tough to gauge durability, but it will be interesting to see how long it lasts...

IMO an expensive caranuba will be a bit deeper, but won't last as long.

Did you do a maintenance polish with M205 or D151 first?

I don't know that I know what either of those are... So no.
