Had to drive through central PA this morning to get to State College. I left at *:15 AM and the temp at my house was -4. The further I drove, the colder it got. Finally at about the halfway mark, it was -10! I returned about 11:45 and in that relatively short time, the -10 place had warmed up to +21, a 31 degree increase. It is now 27 at my house.

Overall effect on mileage driving my VW All Track...normal mileage of about 34 for that trip was reduced to 29.8. Good thing....cold made the tire sidewalls a lot stiffer so it was like driving on low profile tires.

My family up in Cambria County PA has been experiencing subzero low temperatures for several weeks. A very cold winter, for sure.

We went below freezing here in central Florida for at least 3 nights.
The cold killed a lot of plants and trees. It didn't matter if you covered them or not, still dead.
Hopefully they will come back.
On the flip side, it killed a lot of crabgrass in the yards, so that's good.
Hopefully killed a few no-see-'ums too.

It was -14F at my house at 4am today. I got called in for a night shift because of a cold related shut down at work. I don't know that I've ever experienced such a long duration extreme cold. It was a long time ago if so.

My old lady and I are actively seeking a second home (eventually to be THE home in a decade or so) in Lakewood Ranch or Siesta Key, Florida. Left Sarasota airport after 71F day. Landed in Westchester, NY airport about 10PM. There were a few final minutes left in the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl.

Nightmare getting a Lyft...had a few canceled and limited availability with Uber too due to Super Bowl watchers taking safe rides home. Ended up waiting outside and my ears were hurting from the cold. I didn't have a hat. Awoke to -9F at my home this morning. I've been an avid winter mountaineer since about 19 years old. Overnight in the WHite Mt's many a time. The coldest I have been in was 28F ish. I enjoyed winter.

In my mid-50's, this was the first time I said to myself, I'm done with this :poop:. That cold just cuts right through my soul now. I was missing this.....

Temps at the shore have been high teens and lows in the single digits.
Lagoon frozen solid. The 1 1/2" galvanized pipes securing my floating dock
were pulled some 4' up with the frozen tidal waters. Note the snapped pipes at top.
I secured the floater with ropes and will try to install new pipes/fittings when we
get any semblance of a thaw. Many neighbors with free-standing pilings are seeing
their 8-10" pilings being lifted 3-4' from the bed below.

-18C currently in my area, but weather is improving day by day. when mid February arrive, Weather warm up a lot. the worse is soon to be behind.

I had approx 150 bees in my yard yesterday buzzing around the flowers in my yard.

No winter down here or very cold temps.

DC/MD/NoVa area is to return to almost normal Winter tomorrow. Temps will be highs in the mid 40sF so maybe 5F to 10F lower than average. Lows in the plus or minus around 20 to 32ish.

It was the coldest morning in 5 years where I live, it was -17F 🥶 Lucky for me, this morning I was at my girlfriend’s house which is located 50 miles to the south and on Lake Ontario so it was a bit warmer there (-6F) By the time I had to start my Honda this morning it was already 0F and I was worried about that ten year old original battery and if it would finally die on me but it gave me no trouble 😃

I must admit, I was also worried about my battery @Patman this morning. I remember when I first test drove my Legacy in 2021, it needed a boost in the compound where it had been parked; the battery is from '19 IIRC.
