I am in agreement. U.S. Navy has very quietly taken the scientific lead of many a mil project with far reaching civ consequences. In similar way so has the Air Force.
 
I'll believe it when it reach production scale. There are so many promising, easier to use tech that didn't scale up to production and I'll not hold my breath until I see them. Liquid metal reactor, thorium reactor, helium cooled reactor, etc are all examples of this.

what does scale have to do with this? You think mass power production is the only purpose of fusion?

I wish we could know more about the Navy and their advanced projects. Some of the stuff they admit to having is outrageous already, and that's not half of it...

What else do you want to do with it? It is probably not as effective and practical as our existing N bomb.

Even nuclear subs and air craft carriers are by definition power production.
