I was ready to buy a cold air intake kit for my 2006/Jeep/Hemi.I had two to choose from K&N and AFE.My fear is that water would find it's way to the element because today I checked my air filter box with standard K&N filter in it and the box had come in contact with water.I guess I saved between $200-300 dollars.
Which direct replacement filter would be better?A AFE or a K&N that I have already? Thanks Joe

AFE ...

AFE or S&B. S&B cost much less, but the AFE PG7 filter is very nice.

Direct replacement...AFE the slicone gasket is far superior sealing then the K&n is and no greasing required. The AFE is also a 7 layer filter instead of a 5.

Thanks for reply. No off roading but with rain/washing Jeep I can't see how water would not get into the engine.I have besides the K&N the AFE 5R red model which is now blue media.Just driving in rain weather would find it's way to the filter. The cols intake models would be K&N#57-1549/AFE#54-10242.Joe

Interesting, I have NEVER seen a K&N requiring grease

Many of the so-called Cold Air Intakes actually bring in hot under-hood air. Check this out.

Also, they are designed for high rpm optimization and fall on their keister for low and mid-range rpm operation.

Plus, they're noisy. And expensive.

Save your money.

I don't know how it is for other cars but when I had my CAI on the Civic the filter was in front of the passenger side wheel. It's probably as far away from the engine as it can get. The noise is one nice thing about the CAI, that's one of the reason I had one along with the cat back exhaust.
