Cobalt Oil Filter

I just changed the oil on my Daughter's 2006 Chevy Cobalt and I could not remove the factory oil filter from the lid. What is the trick to this. The replacement Purolator filter looked the same. Had to put factory filter back in for now until I figure this out.

Wrap the filter with a rag and give it a good tug. The filter is held in place via interlocking tabs made into both the filter and lid.
