Hi,

I have been looking at Sonic Silver 5w20 oil for my Santa Fe. It is SN rated conventional oil.

From the spec sheet:

https://www.coopconnection.ca/wps/wcm/connect/1d40e050-bbf0-4288-84af-6e1cad9428a2/Lubricant+Petro+Specs%5B1%5D.pdf?MOD=AJPERES

on page 13, the pour point is listed at -51C! Seems extremely low for conventional oil. Anyone has experience with this oil?

API SN oils are basically semi-syn. The SN spec is obviously tougher than SM, hence the need for some synthetic.

I agree that -51 C is a pretty low pour point, and it is proof that there is some synthetic content.

I wonder if this is correct, AMS 0w20 is about the same number ...
it should around -40 - -43 for 5w20 no ?

In the same spec document, the sonic gold 0w30 has a pour point of -60C and the synthetic blends have pour points of -51C so my guess is that the sonic silver uses similar synthetic blend to the sonic gold eventhough it is not described as a synthetic blend.

I live in Saskatchewan now and in winter it gets colder than mars here. The sonic oils could be very good for winter use here.
