I had a proposal tonight from a member that recommended a Clubhouse type forum. This would be a single topic forum that is password protected. It would contain any posts and discussions on R/S/P that the members want to make. The only connection that BITOG would have is that it would be on our server and of course the word nanny would still kick in. I would not own this or get one penny from it. Cost would be $10 per year and payable to the owner of the Clubhouse. In fact I won't even be a Moderator in the Clubhouse. No avatar associated with this because as I stated, it is not part of the Board, it only resides here for a home.

If you are interested, let us know if you would join something such as this.

I think that is a great idea. Another forum I frequent has a similar setup, where paying members have access to forums involving R/S/P. This other forum, however, is set up in levels.
"Lite" - General off topic, light stuff
"Medium" - Mostly politics
"Dark" - Anything goes, viewer beware

I would be willing to chip in ten bucks for the privelege.

Also, I think it would be better to kill the word nanny for this if it was set up. If you are easily offended or in the presence of small children, stay away!

Experience from the other forum strongly suggests that such a forum would need an active moderator, as discussions about politics often quickly go to the doghouse.

I have yet to lurk any "related" off-BitOG sites, but I would hesitite to see members from HERE getting nasty with each other THERE...too much spill over would pollute the fine oily pool here. -jmo

With a token amount of money invested, you would maintain a higher level of discipline. Interesting idea.

Isn't the board that Mike moderates used for this exact same purpose? Don't see it being used a heck of a lot.

Toyota/Saturn maintains a board for this purpose. None of the yokels who want to start trouble here will go there and argue. I have tried and no one shows up. So if they wont do it for free, why does anyone think they will pay?

Dan

I agree with Dan and Schmoe. No one goes there except some idiot named Pablo and his crazy views. Try that place for awhile before you think your $10 will solve the issue.

The thing about arguing...I mean discussing different opinions of the sort we're referring to is that in most cases, it serves no purpose other than to let people restate their position, re-present their "data", re-quote their scripture, whatever. and in the end nobody has come to any agreement or conclusion they haven't arrived at before they started.
So why do we bother?

Dan, I agree 100%.

A free board where you can say what you want (without being slanderous) is available to all here. (thanks to Tony for pinning the link on the top of the forum!). Bring your $.02, not your $10.00.

Paying for a dungeon. Nahh. I'd rather pay the money to Tony to keep the board running. That's far more important than a dungeon. HuffingtonPost offers great entertainment, Yahoo's Adult rooms give tons of adult chat for those so inclined, and there's tons of religion sites to blog and chat from crosswalk.com to family.org to drlaura.com.

Plus, what if Google bots are able to unearth anything in there? That would not fare well for BITOG's squeaky-clean record on keeping things a cut above. After all, Tony's RSP policy keeps it that way.

I don't see a win-win here, only potential pitfalls.

I think the above statement captures teh most cogent of the argument for nixing this idea. BITOG enjoys a sterling reputation, why offer the opportunity to poop on it.

Dan

There are rules for using the board and we should not accommodate the minority who continue to ignore them; it undercuts Tony's authority over the board's operation.

Fundamentally it is an issue of respecting Tony's rules and all the others who are using the board within the guidelines.

Tony, I think you should stick to your rules and not give in. As others have said there are many other places to go for that stuff.

I think the idea was good, but as stated above. We can go to Mikes forum to vent. So at least I feel I presented the idea for views for a member and it appears to not be a viable option.

Thanks,

Tony

The payment idea would certainly keep out most of the casual trolls. I think it's a good idea as long as the users in there know that their disputes can't carry over to this board (yes, there will be a number of them).

I'd go for it. I don't quite understand having it carry over. ...well I do, but I love spirited debate ..but once it's over ...I'm "huh? What are you still cranked about
