What is the best way to close and seal a caulk tube filled with product that I may not use again for a few months?

Thanks!

I stick a nail in the end and wrap duct tape around it. You could even put some caulk around the nail then store it nozzle side up.

For latex a nail will rust which discolours the caulking.

I prefer to use a long plated screw or galvanized nail.

I use a wire nut.

They come in different sizes so no matter how you've cut the tip you can find one to fit.

I use used screws with stripped heads. Works great yes it can discolor the first inch of caulk but just squeeze it out.

Good stuff, Ill try this. I have had the nail discoloration thing before, thus why I asked.

I may have some SS screws that likely would work too, but that seems expensive for this!

The problem I've run into with things like wire nuts is that it still causes the caulk to dry out in the long "spout". The nail method, when removed still provides a clear channel into the main container. I've cut open clogged tubes of caulk that were only sealed on the top just to see what happened and they were all the same - dry caulk the whole way down the nozzle, right to the main part.
