Coooooooooold morning here in Northern Illinois. I wasn't expecting it which is the cause of my story. I hop into my Mazda this morning headed to work, start her up, put on my seatbelt and hit the road. I leave my subdivision and hit the main road changing direction. Boom, unbelievable sun light making it impossible to see. I lower my sun visor to stop some of the light so I could see and as I'm doing so I notice condensation on the window. I glance down to hit my defrost button and glance back out the window, the whole thing had already fogged up leaving me practically blind. I slow down enough to buy myself some time for the defroster to kick in while at the same time not slowing down the flow of traffic and causing a potential situation. It wasn't enough. All of a sudden brake lights right at the hood of my car, there was no way I was going to stop in time. I had three options, swerve into the fast lane and potentially clip the car next to me. Tap the brakes to decrease the impact of hitting the car in front of me. Turn right and put myself in the snow bank/ditch. I chose option three. Ended up almost next to the guy I swerved to avoid, the collision would've totaled my car and likely his. After a minute or two of wiggling around I got back on the road and made it to work. Very thankful no one and no cars were hurt today. Remember folks, if it's cold out hit the defrosters before you even leave the lot. Fogging up while driving can create a very dangerous situation.
