Has anyone heard from Clevy recently? The last time I saw him post was in a VOA thread for Liqui Moly 5W-40. He actually turned me on to MoS2. Hope he's doing ok...

A lot of the old timers don't come on here anymore.
This site has really gone downhill.
Most of the posts are"Which oil is best for my ------"
Or what is the best filter.
Not much else it seems.

It's not so much the questions, it's the people who have taken over this site.

X2

However, Clevy joined in 08 so I consider him more of a newcomer

Clevy had a tendency to get a little carried away with himself in some of his posts and was sometimes downright insulting in addressing other members.
Banned?

I've seen him post once or twice. I suspect he comes on once in a while, but has decided he has "better things to do". Maybe he doesn't like the arguments, or the atmosphere, or he truly is busy elsewhere. It happens. I used to hang out on some gun forums but my interests have changed and thus no longer hang out there.

["Better" things to do wasn't meant to be derogatory, but to just quickly sum things up. If he had more disposable time perhaps he'd be here. Just as I'd surf those gun forums that I used to frequent.]

The problems here lately with this site imo is a new member will come along and ask what they feel is a legitimate question. And then all the little children will come along and treat them as if they asked a stupid question. NO question is a stupid question. Questions are how we learn and educate ourselves. *Not* asking questions and just assuming is what's stupid. EVERY member here was a newcomer at one time. If someone doesn't have anything legitimate to add to a thread, why not just simply not partake in it? We never stop learning. We will continue to learn up until we leave this lifetime.

The main rap that some have on newbies asking naïve questions is that if they just spent a little time lurking and reading through older threads they'd already have their answers.
How many best oil or filter for my quite pedestrian car threads does the site really need?

I think with me in that aspect is that if you search through some older threads, you'll see everyone recommending 15W40 for everything. Search the more recent threads and everyone just says to use 0W20 for everything. Everything changes and evolves. Plus the search function can be a pita to use if you don't know how to "tweak" it.

But yeah I agree, the same old "What's the best oil for my 2017 such and such" gets boring :P

Or, "I'm such a bada$$ because I used 5W-40 in a car I don't actually even own that calls for 0W-20!"

May we got Clevy when we fire bombed Canada, or the chemtrails...

Or "That is an awful car with horrible reliability based upon absolutely no personal experience aside for walking past a 20 year old version halfway across the parking lot one day five or six years ago".

OTOH, part of the fun is in trying grades a little off the beaten path for an application just for grins.
A little common sense regarding expected ambient temperatures involved is required, but that shouldn't be a problem for most folks.
Using an offbeat brand of oil can also be entertaining as long as that oil at least meets the required specs or comes close.
We all should know that no engine was ever harmed by using a grade other than that recommended in the OM.
We also all know that any engine will live out a long lifespan using nothing other than the grade recommended in the OM in the cheapest possible oil meeting the required specs paired with a jobber grade ecore oil filter.

New construction has slowed significantly in Saskatchewan so he'd have more time than ever to post. I find it absurd that he's not around any longer.

This, unless it is a specific car I owned, I can't speak to it. As I drove it, maintain it, and fix it.
I really only post in the 99-04 TDI and GM threads because I know that stuff. My Honda and Nissan were 1991 and 1996 so they really don't count for what a company is doing now.

But I never really understood why people get mad at any question. It is an internet board. Don't read it or respond if you finding it boring and/or annoying. So what the guy/girl didn't search, maybe they wanted some interaction. Maybe they wanted to start a discussion on a discussion board. I have posted a few tech articles that would be useful for some.(shift kit in the 4L65E, Intake gasket replacement 3800, water pump replacement LSx.) Others have too. I wish the had a tech section were you could post stuff like that.

Clevy is OK, I talked to him on Facebook a while ago. Single parent of a teenage girl. The Fort McMurray wild fires created thousands of construction jobs.

Good to hear. I enjoyed reading his posts about construction. Wish he was closer so I could have his company do some work.
