They have some fairly prominent API symbols on their products; I'd expect they are licensed. Otherwise they'd be in gross violation of false advertising and would be shut down in seconds by the API and FTC.

However, it's often hard to find some products in the API search directory simply because we don't know what exact name to search. For example, the Fram and Carquest lubes are listed by "Advance Stores Company" ... (not Advanced Auto Parts, or AAP, etc). If you don't know what to search for, it's hard to find some things.

Further, this specific product the OP listed may not be made any longer; whatever license which was valid at the time may have expired now. But at the time of production the API symbols may have been "valid".

Maybe call/email JTP and ask their license number, or ask what parent company name is being used.

My guess is that they're a lube distributor that advertises they carry name lubes like Mobil and SOPUS. I suspect they commissioned this as a house brand to sell as a budget line....

Easy enough to find their web presence. Their synthetic blend is re-refined as their full synthetic is not. Looks like the full synthetic is a solid oil and for $12 a 5qt. jug it's a no brainer.

I agree with @dnewton3 . The back of the bottle states "Manufactured for, Jamison Transportation Products".

Not sure I have seen a label / statement such as this as I usually saw "manufactured / distributed BY" (e.g., Warren) Of course, this is manufactured for JTP.

For those in the industry / military, could this be a case where JTP is trying to supply "something"/oil (especially re-refined / recycled oil) to government / military, and in order to even respond / submit a bid (i.e., qualification), JTP first needs to prove / show existing oil sale volume, etc....hence just get existing / already-approved additive packages from Lubrizol, Afton et al, have someone "mix" then sell at cost or lower since they are targeting larger, more lucrative government / military contracts. I would think the cost to just produce low quality, "fake" oil is not insignificant...not to mention lawsuit implications.

I know a friend in the hospitality industry is always looking for low cost, recyclable materials for all these amenities used in hotels (so that hotel chains like Marriott can claim / meet ESG numbers "oh we used x% of recyclable materials"), and would not be surprised if government / military vehicles are "required" to use x% of recycled / re-refined oils for their vehicles / equipments.

I'm not interested, but did check on the pricing app "Honey" and it shows this oil has been at this price since at least Oct 4th, 2024.
I also noted they are limiting purchases to one jug as of today.

WHen the K-Mart closed near my in-laws, I happened to be in there the last week or so and they had a ton of the Smitty's oil. I grabbed probably 3-4 oil changes worth for their Camry. Changed it for them twice a year. They typically did not drive a lot, but went from Florida to New England every summer. My MIL still drives that car to this day. Bullet proof.

When I was in college there was this commuter guy who drove an old car, brush painted either green or brown and a checkerboard vinyl top that had huge rust bubbles underneath. Anyway it burned/leaked so much oil that he carried a case or two of K-Mart oil in his trunk. He generally had to stop halfway to school to add a quart. He always parked in the same general area and there were large greasy spots on the street.
