Imtrying to obtain that clear vegetable oil look on the oil change to Mobil 1 EP 5w-30 on my 2002 Accord with 53400 miles. Since I had the car new, i was a novice about oil so i would let the mechanics at the lube shop con me into putting 10w-20, 5w-20 and 5w-30 back and forth and would change my oil every 4-6k miles. Did a bilstein engine flush at 25k, completed the ARX treatment and then switched to M1 EP 5w-30, after putting 3 oz of LC with the first 2k miles, the oil startedto get dark real fast. Ive decided to change theoil at 5k instead of 10k miles. To obtain the clear oil for up 8k miles efore it starts to get darker, should go with the enhgine flush to remove the contaminants and old oil or would the next oil change bring me to that clear looking oil.

Oil is supposed to darken, as it picks up contaminants, and keeps them in suspension.
Expecting 8,000 miles of clear oil is unreasonable.

Not sure why. I'd be more worried if I ran oil 8K miles and it DIDN'T change color.

yea, when I run 12,000 mile OCI the oil begins to get dark around 7000 or so but color is meaningless for the most part, need a UOA to see for sure.

but the oil was darken at 2k miles, so maybe that if i chage the oil at 5k to m1 ep again, it will clean all the oil fluid that LC caused by releasing the varnishing and inside the engine will be flawlessly clean. what do you think

I have to agree with the other posters, the oil is going to darken as you drive the car. As long as you change it at the recommended intervals you should be fine. If you are really concerned go for a UOA, that will take all guess work out.

Mobil EP darkened up fast in my new (to me) used sludged up 2001 suzuki swift. within 1000 miles it's already considerably darker- and that is a GOOD thing- means that some of the crud disolving and staying in suspension.

can't wait to see what happens after arx.

Maybe it's just me, but a Bilstein engine oil flush at 25,000 miles on a well maintained engine is a total waste.

Don't get me wrong, the Bilstein does a good job and it's use does have a place when dealing with a neglected engine, and engine that has overheated, or done as maintenance drill at high milage.

I guess the most sickening abuse I've seen with such flushing machines was selling one on the first oil change "to get rid of all the break-in metal".

If you are so obsessed with keeping the oild so clean, just chang the oil more often.
