Sure, except the used oil analysis shows the oil to be useful for another 5000 miles. It wasn't the oil thickening or getting used up, the oil itself was in fine condition. The point is, if you have a problem with something being dirty, you need to directly address the issue with something designed to clean it much more aggressively than oil.

Mobil 1 High Mileage is supposed to have very good cleaning abilitity. Walmart has good prices on it.

Have you serviced the PCV system?? Change valve and clean hoses?
I would do that and run the Mobil 1 high mileage.

Oh, she's perfectly capable - She's not the problem - I am! After my one bad incident with a "quickie lube" place where I worked for hours to get off a stuck filter, I refuse to let any family member use them. My time is limited, hence me not being able to do it more than every 3k.

Maybe I bite the bullet and just do it...

Good point. The PCV is clean and clear but I did not clean out the hoses. This may be a good candidate car for my PCV oil separator experiment...

O'Reilly Auto Parts sells it in 10w30.

Just for grins, toss in a quart of kerosine (yes, kerosine) or the BG engine flush and let her idle for about half an hour. drain, change the filter, then be done with it. kerosine itself is a lubricant so while I dont recommend driving the car, it will certainly wash up well.

a 99 sludged up with todays oils eh? I would notta thunk it.

Save your time and money, and go straight to ARX and get it done right the first time.

Shell Rotella CI-4+ 5w-40 is very high detergent, but a bit pricey.

I'd suggest Walmart Universal 15w40, you'll notice the oil will brown up much quicker than usual, thats the detergents working.

Have you looked at a VOA on PP and how much calcium it has? A 40w will be a bit heavy for that application IMO.

Granted, PP seems to have decent Ca levels for a PCMO but itd still not nearly as a CI-4/CI-4+ diesel oil.

Also, I don't think a 15w40 is heavy for Alabama temperatures, in high mileage motor.

Me neither! The biggest problem with this engine is that it had a period of little to no maintenance that probably lasted a few years. I'll bet it did a 20k OCI before I started taking care of it. I'll pass on the whole explanation why, it's not a good story and she's moved on.

It was the right thing to do. She didn't deserve the bad treatment she was getting and we had the means and the will here to help her out. She's doing great, getting very good grades, and is getting on her feet again. She'll be fine.

In the end, all we've got is family...

Baa haa haa! That's funny. True story: One day driving home from school her alternator light goes on, the air conditioning quits, and the steering gets very difficult. She drives home knowing that something bad has happened, but not wanting to stop and get stranded. I think I told her once that if she saw the alternator light, don't stop the car and drive straight home.

No biggie, broken serpentine belt I think. Naaah, nothing that lucky. The bolt holding on the crankshaft pulley came loose just enough to let the pulley stay still while the crank turned. Wore a grove in the pulley. Funny, on my wife's car getting this bolt loose required a trip to Sears for an air impact wrench and on the sister-in-law's car the darn thing comes loose all on its on.

Thankfully the crank pulley wasn't too wrecked - I centered it up, replaced the serpentine belt, and all is well except it wobbles a little bit.

If this car died, I actually think she'd be happy...

Your used oil analysis is showing the oil to be good but your engine is telling you that your OCI is too long or the lifters wouldn't develop a clogging issue in the first place and require cleaning. Your engine is talking...are you listening?
