Cleaning - Ester v's "Auto RX"

I hear that ester based oils (Motul & Neo) are very good at cleaning the internals of an engine. If this is true would it not warrant using auto RX when using these ester based oils?

You do not want to use an oil containing esters when cleaning with Auto-Rx and especially not during the rinse phase. Frank says that the other esters compete with the esters in Auto-Rx and greatly slow the cleaning process.

Yes, Esters clean very well. It is natural esters in AUto-Rx that are responable for the cleaning action. Synthetic esters are have powerful cleaning ability but not as power as natural esters according to Frank (The developer of ARX).

You would be hard pressed to find a dirty engine if it has been run on ester based oils exclusively! Redline useung TPE and TPO and NEO is Diester based.

Now if you are trying to clean out a sludged up engine useing an expensive ester based oil does not makes sense. It will take longer then ARX to do it and it will use up it's lubricateing ability early on to try to clean! IT makes more sense to use a cheaper lubricateing oil and a cleaner like ARX to do the job!

High quality synthetic motor oil is generally reputed to keep an engine clean--if it is clean to start with. So I would not think AutoRx maintenance doses are necessary with an ester based synthetic motor oil. But for the initial cleaning AutoRx is supposed to do the job in a couple OCI's whereas the ester based motor oil, may do it, but likely in a lot more OCIs. Nonetheless, I think AutoRx does recommend running a maintenance dose even with synthetic motor oil. But as stated above, you need to run dino during the AutoRx full cleaning process.

As of yet, nobody has been able to document the cleaning abilty of any other product like Aaron did with AutoRX.

Keep in mind that AutoRX uses esters to clean, but relies on a non synthetic oil to do the cleaning. Without this non synthetic oil (known as the rinse oil), the sludge would remain.
