I had a OBD II fault code P0420 (a generic code that is defined as “Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1) on the wife's car and found out that you can clean yo Catalytic Converter!

I ran some Cataclean thru the fuel system and the code has never come back yet... so you might want to try Cataclean first and even use it occasionally as preventive

Have you thought about finding out why you are getting this Code?

I found out why... the cat was dirty and needed to be cleaned!

Hence the reason I ran some Cataclean thru the fuel system

Car runs perfectly before and after the code came up that one time so there is no restriction in the bank 1 cat... it was just dirty and needed to be cleaned.

Catalytic converters don’t get dirty unless there is something amiss with the engine. Besides, “dirt” is a bit of a misnomer here.

Sure they do... watch the video and see for yourself.

This guy sticks a camera up in the cat and you can see the dirt... then he cleans the cat and sticks the camera back in and you can see how much cleaner it is.

It was a Efficiency Below Threshold code that only appeared once... you should check out the science the folks at Cataclean have published and get more educated on this topic!

It must be a mystery for you as to why O2 sensors need to be replaced sometimes...

Yes, the "science" of people selling a product that's claimed to deal with the a problem they profit from "solving".

Catalysts should last the life of the vehicle (which is why the emissions systems warranties are so long). I've never had to clean a catalyst, let alone replace one. If a PCM is producing catalyst efficiency codes it's due to something influencing the readings it's using to measure catalyst efficiency, or something directly influencing the efficiency of the catalyst, such as a rich condition, oil contamination...etc. Something a healthy engine doesn't do.

Do you believe that Lucas "stabilizes" motor oil too by chance?
