There is a special cleaner (set of 2 bottles) for the aem dryflow filter. Basically you mix that solution in a bucket of water and dip the filter in it, and then let it dry.

Is there anything special about the solution ? How different would it be to just dip the filter in water and clean/rinse it ?

really ? so now is their cleaner also like dish soap (detergent/degreaser/cleaner) ? or this is a good alternate method ?

Now would be a good time to throw the filter out and get one that you throw away. Probably would filter better as well.

Probably? Here is AEM's claim on this filter:

"Delivers 99.4% cumulative filtration efficiency, based on independent SAE J726 JUN93 FINE DUST Air Cleaner Test Code procedures."
Now why on earth should someone throw this filter out?

As far as getting cheap on the cleaner why not buy what AEM says you need after paying good money for the filter?

The cleaning solution smells like orange cleaner. I have a Dryflow filter, and have cleaned it. My .02: get orange cleaner and rinse like heck.

now where would you get the idea that its about 'getting cheap' ??

It just seemed that you were trying to avoid buying the AEM cleaner that's all. No offense intended so please don't take any. My point is the filters are not inexpensive (I have one also) so why experiment with other cleaning methods that may damage it or not clean it completely?

no offense taken. we're cool. have a cold one to that -

I was really curious what that cleaner was afterall. and wasn't all that excited about ordering the cleaner everytime. Had it been available locally I might not have even gone through this thought process. In fact I feel about the cost of the cleaner as less than the cost of a replacement 'throw away' filter.

No question about it, a very nice filter.
