Who makes the best clay bar and/or the least likely to scratch. I've been told that Clay Magic, even the blue bar, will show scratches in black paint.

all i can say is the mother's clay bar kit that i bought gave me fantastic results.

my car is silver though. under certain conditions, you can see the normal fine "scratches" and surface imperfections in the paint, but the clay bar greatly improved my paint.

The key to scratchless clay bar application is lots of lubrication.

I tried claybars from Zaino and ClayMagic in the past, and I like ClayMagic much better. It's softer - easier to work with. Also, the lubricant spray they provide along with the bar is excellent, although not enough - I do 30% of the car and it's gone. Then I use Meguiar's Gold Class shampoo somewhat dilluted in water as the lubricant for the rest of the car.

It's important to have the car as clean as possible before you begin claybarring so that you don't drag grit and sand along the paint and scratch it. Be sure to turn the bar over frequently and if you happen to accidentally drop it on the ground, do not even think about using it again.

Other than that, well... like tweeker43, I also have a silver car so scratches are less visible, but even then, I don't think there are any clay-borne scratches in my paint. Just gotta be careful, that's all.

This is something that I have always been concerned about. You be better off not using the clay or is there a special techinque?

it should scratch unless u dropped it...i have used it for years with no problems. only the best even on the worst cars.

i just spray the solution and work an area at a time and wipe....make sur eu keep the area saturated at least so the claybar wont rub the paint.

its really easy...i like it, have fun!

oh i used mothers, mequiars and they are really just about the same

tweeker...Have you tried Zanio's Z-5 polish to get rid of the "spider" swirl marks on you vehicle.

The stuff worked great on my wife's dark green vehicle.

And..There is really no trick to using a clay bar.

Keep it clean..If you drop it, throw it away..and use plenty of lube..any carwash, dishsoap mixed with water will work>

i just tried the eagle one nanowax, and it reduced or hid the light swirl marks i did have.

i'm afraid to try anything too aggressive.

mine are so light and fine they are almost invisible on the silver anyway.

tweeker, try some scratchX. In my mind it's too conservative, so I doubt you'll have any problems. Actually, it seems to do more filling of fine scratches than polishing down the edges.

z5 does not remove swirls, only hides them. If you have swirls, get some meguiars #9 or dual action cleaner polish(only if #9 isn't enough to remove them) to polish out your swirls.

I've only tried the Meguiers but I like it. Mostly I go back and forth in straight lines and not in circles. Then I hand polish with Meguier's #7 and wax it with Mothers. I don't do all that every time, but for sure the first wax job of the spring. Oh, and before the clay bar I rub out the sides of the car with tar remover. I had surgery on my right elbow this spring (gee, I wonder how it got worn out? detailing my cars and others for 25 years?

) and working only left-handed it took me three evenings to do my truck.
