What is the best lubricant for clay bars?

A cap full of your favorite car washing liquid in 16 oz of water. Maybe as lean as a cap in a quart. Go by feel.

The lube that comes with ClayMagic is awesome, alas it's not enough to clay even half the car for me. So when it's finished, I just mix a high dose of my Meguiar's Gold Class shampoo with water and use that as clay lube - it's not as slick, but still good enough to work with.

My experience has been that a quick detailer spray works best. I've tried car wash soap also and found that for some reason it takes a little more effort to get the smooth finish you're after. I do a small section at a time and use the "two fingers in cellophane" method to check my work. The cellophane magnifies the feel of the tiny bumps that need to be removed. A wrapper from a cigarette package is perfect. A car wash soap mixture works OK....it's just not as quick and easy as a detail spray. Again....just my observations.

JUST FYI:

If you're doing a complete detail and you are using any quick detail or the lube that comes with some of the OTC clay bars (which is just a QD), you should wash the car AGAIN with DAWN BLUE to remove the wax that is left from the QD. A clay bar only removes surface contaminants. If you wax/polish over this QD, you're not getting the full use/benefit out of the wax/polish. This is more of an issue when applying a product such as ZAINO.

If you use a product specifically made the move wax, etc after the claying then you do not HAVE to rewash.

My process is as follows:

BLUE Dawn wash
CLAY - use Dawn as lube
RE WASH with BLUE Dawn
Apply Pinnacle Paint Cleansing Clay
Polish if Necc
Apply product of choice - POOR BOYS at the present.

I just tried the Claymagic clay bar. The lube worked nice but it STANK. I switched to a capful of the Zaino car wash in the 12-oz bottle (which is what Zaino says to do with their clay bar) and that worked great.
