wow, that is sad.

whats pathetic is most of those guys think its regular transmission oil when its labeled gear oil.

i can't remember that last time i put actual gear oil in a tranny besides class 8 trucks at work, i mean i know many vehicles do take gear oil, but i'm used to using ATF in all the trannys i own.

and i actually heard of a guy adding 80w90 in his junky Isuzu to help slow burning/leaking, i believe it ran for quite awhile :D

While amusing on a certain level, at certain times, overall the whole thing is pathetic. If it's just trollery, then it's most pathetic. If this guy really did put 75w-90 into his engine, that's pathetic. And the flaming responses from some of the posters are pretty much just as bad. Those guys are, IMO, as ignorant regarding how to get along with others as the OP is regarding oiling an engine. Wow...

When an engine gets that close to the end of its life, it's almost a "who cares any more" sort of thing. That said, I'd use something like "Motor Honey" that's specifically meant to thicken motor oil instead of using something meant for transmissions or gear boxes.

When I posted the link they were on page 5. I did not know, truly, how low it would sink. At this point I am totally sorry I posted it. Please accept my profound apologies.

I look at some rich idiot blowing up something before its useful life is even 1/10 depleted as part of the allowance for R&D that helps subsidize the rest of us enjoying nice machinery.

It was a good read. Thanks for posting it!

No sweat. You posted it in good faith and before it plunged off into the abyss of interpersonal indecency.

They have posted a link now referencing this website. Hope none of the morons make their way here.

Yeah, That link to bitog showing this thread was up a couple hours after pablo posting it here.

The mods here have got cool heads, and banning power in reserve...I'm not worried

Shannow you are right! I am sure the mods would never let a thread get started even close to what that one is, However that board seems to be filled with morons. There are people over there asking for that thread to be shut down and is not. Well not the last time I checked anyway. I am done looking at it because it is so bad. Some insults started as being pretty funny and then it just turned into a competition of who could insult or threaten someone the most. One guy even invited others to come to Jax Fl to see him face to face. Its just stupid. So my point was I don't even want them to post over here at all.

Here is an honest question to make this more than just a joke, 75W-90 is basically straight 40 weight oil as far as kinematic viscosity, what properties would be so drastically different about it to cause that type of failure?

It lacks the proper additives for use in an internal combustion engine.

And it's thick. Kinematic viscosity isn't everything......90 weight gear oil can go up past 20 Cst at operating temp, but it's probably not as pumpable as even thick thick motor oil because it's not designed to be.

Perhaps during one of guys high rpm romps when the stuff wasn't up to temp, the upper end of the motor got filled with the molasses and it couldn't drain back to the oil pump pickup fast enough and the bearings got screeched.

Yep that is preety much most of the population today.....Most H.S. males unless they live in Farm country are dumer then dirt when it comes to car's! On top of that he obviously comes from a Mother and Father that have plenty of money because a working mans kid would not have a WRX....Kids that come from money are usually the worst ones because nothing matter their is no down side to blowing up your engine because you where stupid because Mommy and Daddy will just toss the check book to the kid and be done with it! I have seen this type many many times over....They are the types that have their car's modified they do not do any of the work them selfs because they have no clue how to even get started!Poor kids and Rednecks are the ones that turn wrench's and have to work two jobs to buy their first car etc.....

My wife was managing a fast food joint. She had to stop what she was doing because none of the H.S. guys their knew how to hook up jumper cables. Then she offered to let someone start her car and they came back in because they did not know how to start anything with a clutch! I am not kidding you! I dated a girl in college for a few months that went though car's like most girls go through clothes..SHe would blow them up left and right by not ever checking and refilling the oil.....Daddy would just get her another one every couple of months!

When I was working at a Dealership and Lady driving a Lexus came in in a Lexus that sounded like a garbage truck was coming downthe road with smoke pouring out from every where. The engine was so hot that when we finaly got the hood open the aluminum block was glowing like the exhast manifold on a Porsche 911 Turbo after a hard run on the autobahn!!! The houses and belts melted and stuck to the floor. She drove it 2 hours onthe HWY to the Dealership after the coolant light, temp light and check engine lights came on after talking to her husband on the phone.....She had the kids and everything with her.....When it finally cooled down the engine was so warped that nothing that bolted to the block was square and true with it anymore you could see bolts that had stretched and heat treated metals and alloys under there!!! You could even see that the block was not true anymore it had so much heat distortion....I do not know how she even made it to the dealership like that..... Their was no oil reading on the dip stick and no coolant in it at all. She could not produce a single receipt for any oil or coolant servicing or nothing.... Needless to say Toyota did not help them out on that one!!! We figured she had not had it serviced at all since they had purchased it....It had the origanal factory oil filter on it we think?

As for the gear oil when I lived in Georgia I knew a few people that would add a quart tot heir engines.....They seemed to do ok with just one quart. I tried to explain about the different chemistries I figured it was a waste of breath. When a person is busy bragging about how good pressure cooked BBQ raccoon sand- michs (spelled as said)are the idea of making them understand the difference in chemistry and VII's between motor oil and gear lube is like trying to teach calc to a pre-schooler!

A spun bearing is not that bad if the kid could do his own work and just farm out the little bit of machine work needed if needed!I actually pray that these type of people do not disappear because these idiots make it possible for me to own nice things cheaply!Have to love being handy!
