I had a Giant Perigee, chromoly frame and downtube shifters. It was a good cheap road bike.

That is one sweet ride kid!Beautiful groupset; how smooth is it? I'm not a fan of steel frames and prefer carbon and Ti. I had a Ti frame made up for me by Kish. Built it out with Shimano Ultegra groupset.

It's Colubmus SLX and it is indeed a smooth ride, even with 23mm tires. Definitely different than my Lightspeed or Lynskey.

Oh my, what a wonderful thread to start the day with! Thank you so much. I was a serious rider in the early 70's and my current ride is a refurbished steel lugged frame road bike set up pseudo "Rivendale" style: Nitto handlebars with shellacked cloth, brooks leather saddle, slightly relaxed ergonomics, etc..
Back then I rode a Gitane Tour de France, the equivalent of a Peugeot P10 - entry level road race bikes with sew-up tubular tires. Memories.

I had a Schwinn Continental all through school in the 70's. Not a bike to write home about but there were many of them everywhere and it was a favorite of many. I don't ride anymore but I do have my dad's Raleigh 3spd if I ever want to circle the block.

I'm the polar opposite of you
Road bikes Trek Domane SLR Disc with Iso-Speed & Kish Ti. I'm mostly a mountainbiker and it shows with the tire size on my road bikes. WIDE! The Iso-Speed is supposed to soften the ride but I still feel the bumps rather harshly. I feel my Kish Ti is softer. I whine as I'm used to full suspension on my bikes!
2016 I bought a 2017 Trek Remedy 9 (AL frame) 29" and fell back in love with MTB. Loved the Remedy for my area (NY, VT, NH) so much I bought a 2018 Remedy carbon frame and built up a 27.5 beast. Added a Farley 9.8 I picked up used from Pinkbike.

The jersey still fits but the motor isn't the same.
I raced mountain bikes as well, this is the is 90s in Durango at the Iron Horse Classic.
This is Alpe D' Huez in 2011 on a rented Trek after beating cancer, just before the Tour came thru.
I'm currently in treatment for stage 3 NH Lymphoma (complements of my time at Camp LeJeune). I'm looking forward to getting thru with it for the 2024 season.

I believe the LeMond frames were built by Roland Della Santa.
My first "road" bike was a Schwin Varsity. I beat the living tar out of the thing. From 1972 freshman in HS to two years into college. Stopped riding, dad threw bike away when I abandoned the mothership. Then I bought a Specialized road bike ca 1984 or so. Red. Allez with some mods. Rode that thing often. Sold it when we moved to OR.

Only a few were made by Roland. The above posted Lemond is a Trek produced model, they didn't treat Greg very well. I have a LeMond GLX made by Billato in Italy, I haven't got it built up yet. Most steel frame LeMonds that aren't Treks are Billato built, they were imported by a company called Ten Speed Drive Imports in FL.
I'm fortunate to have met and spent some time with Greg on few occasions, a great bike racer and person.
From the post above with the Specialized Allez, great bike! I have an 86 like they used in American Flyers with Kevin Costner as well.
